My assumed soul mate was a human who could shift into a wolf, and despite my discomfort towards him, I couldn't deny the feelings of wanting to be near him.
The night he had walked me home from Tom's party, I felt safe. The day at the waterfall with Kai, he had stepped in and prevented something unimaginable from happening, he kept me safe. I recounted numerous moments in which he had intervened and kept me safe. Maybe it was time for me to face the reality, Jake was good, everything he had said to me was right, and as much as I had tried to ignore it, I liked the way I felt when I was around him.
The realisation made me instantly uncomfortable, the man beside me would do anything to keep me safe, he cared for me, despite our fate, or the elders assumptions, I owed him.
I shifted uncomfortably. I tried to reset my thoughts, ignore the impending drama. My head was aching, like someone had their hands on either side of my head, squeezing as hard as they could. I kept my eyes closed, breathing slowly as I focused on the hum of the car along the road, after a while, it eased the tension.
I was growing weak, tired, sleep was pulling me from reality, I was exhausted and I couldn't fight it. I would be safe with Jake, at least while driving, so I allowed my body to give in to what it needed, soon enough blackness overtook.
"Where are you Haven?" A smooth voice intervened, calming
"Who are you?" I mumbled as I attempted to blink through the darkness
"Where are you?" The man repeated, the voice familiar, nearer
"I can't see you" I called back as I walked slowly towards him
"I'm here" The voice calmly spoke back, closer, deeper
I blinked again, narrowing my eyes into the depths of darkness, my heart racing. Slowly, I found emerald green eyes in the distance, my curiosity growing
"Who are you?" I repeated as I reached my arms outwards
"It's me Haven, it's Hudson" The voice revealed before a snarl erupted around me, the eyes disappearing as a swoosh of air blew past my face causing me to stumble backwards in fear
"What are you doing, where am I?" I panicked
"What's the matter?" He bellowed, echoing around me as if he spoke into a megaphone
"You're trying to kill me" I shout as I continued to step backwards
"Killing you would be too easy" He started again, my eyes darting around in search of him
"I want you to suffer, the more you suffer, the more he suffers" Hudson snarled with a laugh
"Leave me alone!" I screamed as I spun around in circles, scared
Suddenly it went quiet, I stopped moving and stood still, the feeling of being watched heavy and unsettling
My body was frozen, my breathing rigid when a rush of cold air brushed along my cheekbone, someone breathing directly beside my ear. I clutched my chest where my heart nearly exploded, my eyes squeezing shut as I waited to die.
"You're dead" He whispered along my ear with a chuckle as a pair of arms grabbed me from behind, pulling me down.
I began to scream, thrashing around in an attempt to free myself as another voice began in front of me. Another pair of arms were on my shoulders, shaking me
"Haven, Haven, you're okay, open your eyes" The voice tried, completely different than the last. Immediately, my eyes jolted awake and I came face to face with Jake in front of me, he leaned in the open passenger door of the stopped car beside me
