Both Cail and Julian left the room again once they'd convinced me to behave. I had no intentions of doing it again; I had the answer I was looking for, that was all I needed. I slumped back against the bed and sighed as I removed my hand from my nose, the blood had stopped flowing and I was now beginning to feel exhausted. I knew the blood transfusion would take its toll on me, I was just holding onto some kind of miraculous hope it wouldn't.
I could feel Jake's eyes burning into me as I tried to avoid meeting his gaze altogether, but it was near impossible as he near begged me to talk to him without a single word.

"What are you staring at?" I shot as I finally turned to face his wrath.

"You" He shortly put as he lightly smirked

"Why?"

"You're always surprising me" He remarked with a tilted head

"I'm always surprising myself" I replied honestly

"I'm glad we share that experience" He sarcastically added as his smirk turned into a grin

"Cute" I whispered with a disapproving look

"How do you figure?" He asked seemingly curious

"That smile..." I wandered off as I searched his face, his eyes glued on mine

"Don't get too used to it" He warned as I watched him.

"Why are you like that for?" I suddenly changed with a confused expression as his face slowly dropped

"Like what?"

"You want to be so serious all the time, you seem to enjoy being cold" I explained

"I don't have a lot to be thrilled about at the moment" He lightly shrugged

"You're alive, isn't that reason enough?" I questioned

"I could ask you the same question" He whispered as he leaned closer to my face

"I ... I am" I stumbled

"Are you? Cause you question yourself like every single move you make will be the last thing" He spoke softly

"It very well may be the last move I ever make, have you seen what my life is like at the moment?" I defended

"At the moment, yes, but before you met me..." He trailed off suggestively.

"You didn't even know me back then" I rolled my eyes

"The look in your eyes whenever I saw you, it was a mask, every laugh, every smile, it wasn't real, something was behind it" He explained in a backlash of my own past

"I don't know what you're talking about" I shook my head as I moved my head away from his direction.

He was winning, and we both knew that.

"And then there is denial" Jake ended with a smile as his eyes returned to burning my face

"Whatever" I rolled my eyes, probably proving his point further than my own.

"Whatever" Jake mocked, his mood light despite his physical state.

I closed my eyes and leaned my head back, feeling dizzy from either his truthful words or the blood releasing from my body to Jake's.

"Are you okay?" Jake asked, his voice changing as he noticed my now creased eyebrows

"Dizzy" I responded twirling a finger around in the air

"Cail said it would be a side effect" He mumbled in response, less than relieving

"I know, thanks" I sarcastically threw.
