I headed straight to my temporary room, slamming the door behind myself. He knew I had no control over my body and how it reacted when he was close to me, and to use that for ulterior motives made me angry
I was pacing, and it wasn't long until someone knocked on my door. Privacy was something I was realising wasn't a privilege anymore.
I tried to contain my temper
"Haven, can I come in?" Imelda asked softly
Hesitantly, I opened the door, she stood in a beige summer dress
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine" I quickly told her
"What did he do?" She sighed, seeing past the lie
I rolled my eyes, anger subsiding slightly "He needs to learn to mind his business"
"It depends on the situation I guess"
Suddenly I began to get frustrated with her, was she defending him?
"My love life is definitely none of his business" I emphasised
"Ah, of course" She smiled, rolling her eyes as she moved towards the hallway signalling me to follow
"Aldrek was the same" She began as we walked into the empty living room, sitting on the couch
"How did you guys meet?" I admitted
"Mutual friends, I was eighteen, loved him the moment I saw him, but it was a serious slow burn" She told me "I thought he was way out of my league, so missed all the signs when they were right in front of me"
"What scares you the most, not about Hudson, let's ignore that for the moment, but, what else?" She quizzed watching me carefully
"A lot of things" I slowly said, thinking deeply
Imelda watched me, almost urging me to let my thoughts out
"I'm worried about what's going to happen with my dad when he gets home" I started
"That has already been taken care of" Imelda nodded confidently
"How?"
"We organised repairs and a clean up, and as for you not being there, we'll cross that bridge once we get to it, but this could be over before then"
"Do you think it will be over before then?"
"I can't say" She mused
A silence settled as we both seemed to think intently
"What else scares you?" Imelda continued
I looked down at my hands in my lap, fiddling
"How does Jake have so much power over me?" I shot, forcing myself to ask the uncomfortable question
Imelda gently smiled
"You mean, apart from the perfectly gorgeous physique and irresistible charm?"
"That can't be the only reason I seem to melt under him" I shook my head
"No, for most girls, yes, but it's different for us"
"Us?" Was there something wrong with me?
"The easiest way to explain it, is that the elders are rarely, ever wrong, each of Aldrek and Jake's kind have one soul intended to match their own perfectly, it is said that the force between them is as close to magic as anyone could ever imagine" she began "It's like a magnetic force and no matter where you are, how you try to pull away, it always drags you back, you're just one half of a piece without them" She explained, her eyes soft
