Chapter 9:

Jade rushed into the trailer brushing past both guards who were ready to object. However she didn’t give them time to catch her from bursting in the room. She rushed right into Autumn’s arms with the tightest hug of her life. So much air squeezed out of Autumn that she began coughing and gagging.

The guards then realizing it was something personal and one of the girls looked frightened they left them alone and stood back out the door. They obviously didn’t want to get involved between two girls business.

Once outside vague outlines of their voice was to be heard, “Damn emotional teenage girls.”

Finally Jade let up on her death grip on Autumn, enough for her to get a few good breaths. Jade lay on the box of a bed and poured her eyes out in her hands. She didn’t know why she wept but she thought some of it was because her fear of that beast being Drake. The other was the fact that she had never been so scared in her life. She was on the verge of smiling as her friend Autumn came to comfort her. Jade felt Autumn’s gentle touch on her back.

“Is everything alright Jade?” She asked.

“It saw me.” Jade gasped.

“What saw you?” Autumn paused.

“I think it was Drake…”

“What do you mean by it?” Autumn asked.

“It didn’t look human; Autumn it saw me. You’re in danger.”

“Do not be silly you’re the one that’s in dan-” Autumn started but couldn’t finish as she realized she was looking at herself without a mirror. A large gulp got caught at the top of Autumn’s throat.

Jade hugged her and started taking her hair and makeup off revealing her as herself again. Autumn looked mortified about what she could do, but there was nothing she could do but come out of her own. They couldn’t let anybody walk in after Jade’s adventure to two Jade’s.

“No Autumn do not change; we just need to-” Jade pleaded.

It was too late as three men walked in the tent and one grabbed Autumn ripping her arms behind her back as the strong knight began to drag the girl out of the trailer. Jade dashed up and reached for her friend, but was grasped by her two guards who held her tight as she screamed into the night. Once Autumn and the knight were no longer in sight; her guards tossed her back to her bed of wood. Tears steadily rolled down her face as she realized there was nothing she could do for her friend. It was only a matter of time before she was doomed as well.

Her two guards stalked back outside to guard and keep her from getting outside. The only hope she had was that Drake wouldn’t leave before the first act to arise suspicions of him. They were performing the next day together actually. The act they had been working on during the travels and it had been liked enough by the rest of the circus, that they demanded the master to let them do it. He wearily accepted to it as he didn’t wish either of them to be in each other’s presence. She hoped with all of her might that she would see him tomorrow and confront him. At least if he was it, she could persuade him to let Autumn go and take her instead as it was her. That is… Jade gulped so deep it got caught in her throat, if she was still alive.

Jade shook the thoughts out of her mind and focused. She would see him tomorrow and settle it then. She caught a glimpse of a flying moth disappearing behind her ear and turned to watch it flutter to a landing. It came to a halt just below her lantern. It froze there ever so gracefully and she watched it. It looked to be still except for the feelers playing around with each other above its head. Jade focused on its head now on the fur that surrounded its back. It almost looked like hair would look on the back of a man or woman. She even saw a part of the fur that was fixed the wrong way and seemed to spike out from the rest.

She took a step back in disbelief. Surely she was imagining things now as she began to think that the moth was some kind of beast. She was way overstrung on the subject of ridiculousness after the events that happened to her tonight. Again she looked closely at the moth that hung from the red and white striped drapes under the light. Getting a closer look and zoning out on the moth she noticed when it started twitching. It almost seemed as if it was wiggling back and forth as it seemed to start at one wing and travel to the other side. She couldn’t make sense of it and shook the irrational thoughts out of her head.

Surely there weren’t such things as dragon moths and she silently laughed in her head at the thought. She didn’t know why she was so paranoid, except for the fact a dragon saw her and most likely wanted her friend for lunch now. The peaceful melodies of moths she thought would soothe her. Instead it made her even more delusional.

All she could do now was sit and wait for the next day when she had a chance to confront Drake. She needed her rest and so she could perform with Drake in the evening of the next day. Every bit of rest would count and so she laid down in hopes to save her strength for her act. She would be practicing that as soon as she would wake up.

Worry tormented her mind as Jade closed her eyes and awaited the arrival of the next day. Still she couldn’t get the picture of either Autumn or Drake out of her mind. It would be a restless night it seemed as she kept to tossing and turning throughout the night.  Finally darkness took her and she welcomed it in hopes to see her friend again.
