I heard some commotion going on, and my eyes slowly opened. Taylor had finally made her appearance, and she looked outraged.
"Why have you taken my brother!" She said, shouting at the many mermaids surrounding her. Many of them were trying to calm her down, all of them with worried expressions on their flawless faces.
"Shut up and let him out at once," She demanded.
"Please be quiet," I heard the others whisper to her.
"Like hell I'm being quiet!" She said. She finally spotted me, now standing up in my cage, and she rushed to me.
"Oh thank god you're alive!" She said, hugging me through the bars.
"I'm alive, everything's fine," I said.
"You're the last bit of normal in my life, don't ever leave." She said, and let go of me.
"I'll always be here for you," I said to her. Suddenly, Evelot came storming down the beach. The other mermaids cowered from her, either running into the forest or jumping in the water.
"Who the hell is making all this racket!" She growled, "I was trying to get some sleep, since some people think it's okay to come to me late in the night and talk to me!" She looked pointedly at me when she said this.
"Evelot," Taylor said, "Why has Genevieve taken my brother from me,"
"How am I supposed to know," She snapped. Taylor flinched. Evelot, looked like she wanted to punch somebody. She started storming back down the beach.
"Do you know where she is?" Taylor called out to her.
"With the council!" Evelot shouted back, before disappearing into the bush.
"Well, she's nice," I muttered.
"She is, really. Just not when you wake her up."Taylor said.
"Will you please let me out of this cage?" I pleaded.
"Of course," She said, and broke the bond keeping the cage door in place. I walked out, and breathed in deeply.
"Let's go," She said.
"Where?" I asked.
"Council. I need to know what's their problem."
"Aren't they extremely important?"
"I don't care, they love me." She said, grabbing my hand and pulling me towards a small pathway through the bush. It was a strange sensation, for normally when Taylor pulled me she wouldn't even be able to make me budge. But now she was full on dragging me through the forest. Her strength amazed me.
"So, how's life been on the island?" I asked, after she stopped dragging me and I was just walking with her.
"It's okay, I guess. There are a lot of sunken cruises, and little boats. They keep trying to make me eat, but it's so inhumane, so awful, everytime I look at my 'food', I just want to throw up."
"You have to eat Tay, or else you'll die."
"You have no idea how amazing you smell Daniel. But the thought of ripping your skin with my teeth, is enough to make me not eat."
"I don't want you to starve to death. Please Tay, eat for me."
"Next time we have food, I'll try." She said.
"Thank you Tay, thank you." I said. Just then, Genevieve popped out from behind a tree.
"Where do you think you two are going?" She asked, folding her arms and cocking her hip to one side.
