"Lost them?" Probie says glancing out of a window as the four of us walked up the stairs.
"Any one else smell burnt toast." I asked, sniffing around.
"Do you only think about food Tony?" McGee asked.
"I can smell it." Ziva nodded, pausing for a brief second before diverting us along a corridor.
"So can I." Gibbs chorused.
"What? Burnt toast. Doesn't look like anyone lives here." Tim looked around slightly.
"Burnt toast or a fire." Gibbs pointed out, watching his step and avoiding holes in the floor boards.
To my left I thought I saw a young girl, I stopped and looked closer, it was. She was clinging to the railing of a bed.
"Dinozzo keep up" Gibbs commanded.
"Guys, come here." I called back smiling at the girl. "Hello"
She didn't answer.
"Tony! Come on!" I heard Ziva making her way back towards me, and a small gasp almost a scream escaped.
"Tony get back here now!"
I sighed and turned to look back at her, I saw the yellow and orange flames instead.
"There's a girl in here! We need to help her." Turning back to the small child I tried pleading with her.
"Tony please!" Zivas voice was shaky. "Forget about her we need to leave!"
Forget about her.
Why would I do that
Old timbers began to creak, I began to grow worried, out stretching my hand to the girl I smiled and nodded.
"It's fine. I'll get you to safety."
In the distance I could hear Ziva screaming my name, my ankles and feet felt hot. Looking down the flames were leaping at my heels from a doorway. Another exit was clear. The girl wasn't showing motivation. maybe I had made her up. Ziva would kill me if I didn't get out of here. So disobeying my oath to protect I ran. From the flames and the girl down the corridor to a back flight of stairs. The flames were dancing and growing from the windows so I jumped. Praying something soft would appear. Nothing did: pushing myself up I ran to a sewer entrance and wandered hopelessly until I found my hole in the ground.
ZIVA POV
My hands beat at his chest for a brief moment before I hugged him tightly and coughing at how much he stank of ash.
"You fool!" I screamed, my cheeks were red but only he knew I'd been crying for him, letting him go I hit his chest again as Abby hugged him
"What? I had to try and get her out! You would have done the same!" tony said.
"No! She was an image Tony! A hologram, Mossad they, we walked right into a trap," i slid down the wall and down to the floor. "they want me dead, they want all of us dead. I'm sorry. Im ssorry.." I hung my head, not crying in front of Gibbs.
Tony collapsed into a seat, getting his shoes and socks off as fast as he could, then plunging them into a bucket of cold water Duckie had prepared, rolling his head back to lock the yells away, even though some escaped. However even Tony can't escape pain completly, quickly he gave in and screamed out pain. I slid across to his chair and held his hand tightly. (More me trying not to let him break my own hand)
"You were right to try and save her, they would have expected that."
Palmer made himself buisy in a corner, trying to avoid the noise, whilst Abby and Tim sat opposite, Abbs looking very upset. Tim doing his best to comfort her.
Duckie took Gibbs into a separate section and closed the door.
