Thanks to everyone who has patiently waited for the next chapter...

Hera's POV

After the briefing I set in the coordinates for the mission. I sighed and looked out into space. I knew Kanan had given up on hoping that Ezra would return, but I hadn't. I still had hope that he would come back. My eyes move from the vast open space to the seat next to me. Tears began to form around my eyes. I can remember when Ezra first joined us. I remember what he said to me that convinced me that he needed us.

I don't have parents.

Tears were now streaming down my cheeks. I quickly wipe them away and make the jump to light speed.

After I made the jump I lean back in my seat and watch the stars fly past. I slowly drifted into a deep sleep. I saw images flashing before my eyes. Where Kanan and I first met, me buying the Ghost, when Sabine and Zeb joined us. Then I was about to see the moment when Ezra joined us, but everything went white. I could hear screaming. Pain flowed through me. This dream was turning into a nightmare. As the screaming and agony continued I could see a person.

Hera...

I look up to see Ezra standing in front of me. "Ezra?" I question. He extends his hand and I take it. He feels so cold. "Ezra, are you okay?" I ask a bit concerned. "Why has Kanan given up?" He asks. Hot tears stream down my face. "Please just come home." I beg. "Why has Kanan given up?" He asks again. "He misses you. We all miss you Ezra. Zeb and Sabine..." I couldn't finish.

Why has Kanan given up?

I awake to someone shaking me. "Hera?" A voice asks. My vision is blurry. "Hera are you okay?" It asks. I nod as my vision clears. I can see who was shaking me. Kanan. "I...I'm fine love." I say sitting up. "Are you sure?" He asks. "I'm sure." I say looking at Kanan. I can still hear Ezra's voice in my head.

Why has Kanan given up?

I thought for a moment before looking up at him. "Kanan, do you really think Ezra's gone?" He inhales sharply. I know it hurts him to think of his lost padawan. "Yes." He says. "Kanan why have you given up?" I ask. He sighs and turns. "Because Ezra isn't coming back, ever." And with that he leaves me alone in the cockpit. I sigh and return to piloting the Ghost.

Kanan's POV

I exit the cockpit and return to my room. I pull out Ezra's old journal. I open the cover and flip through the pages. Why am I even thinking about him? He recalled the day he had hugged Ezra. It was later that Kanan found out what Ezra thought of him.

Dad.

That was how he had described Kanan. He still remember the note Ezra had left him.

I feel like screw up.

How? Ezra was an amazing padawan. Kanan shook his head and threw the book behind him and began to meditate. What Hera had said was still running through his mind.

Why have you given up?

Kanan wanted to believe that Ezra would come back and he would have his padawan back but he knew that the kid was gone for good.
