Chapter 11: Life, Death, and Gifts

Just so you know this is going to be the last chapter in this book. The song is Glad You Came by The Wanted. I thought it fit the relationship between Kanan and Ezra. For now that's all!

Ezra's POV

"Nightshade?"

My sister smiles. "Yes dear brother?" I stare in horror. "What happened to you?" She cocks her head. "What do you mean?" I slowly back away. "You've turned to the dark side." "Yes and I'm sorry dear brother but my master wants you dead." I hear the dreaded sound of a lightsaber igniting. Red frames her face.

This isn't my sister, this is a monster.

I pull out my lightsaber to defend myself. "You don't have anyone to protect you Ezra's. You're just a scared child that was too weak to save mommy and daddy." She runs at me full force. I block her attack and fight back using a counterattack. "You're at as much a fault as I was Nightshade." She growls. "Let's just get on with it. I have better things to be doing than killing someone as inexperienced as you." She strikes and I strike. Flashes of green cloud my vision. I'm swinging blindly. I hear a yell. As my vision return I see my poor sister holding her arm, blood oozing from the wound. "You'll pay for that brat." She says charging me.

"Nightshade the dark side isn't the way to go. It'll lead you down a path of hate and anger." I block. She's clumsy, fighting out of anger. Another hit. She shouts in pain. "Please I don't want to fight you." I beg. She swings again. She's tired. I don't want to hurt her, but I can't have her kill me.

I try a different tactic. "Nightshade do you remember when we were kids and mom and dad would do brodcasts? Do you remember when I would cry at night because I was afraid that this brodcasts would be mom and dad's last. Do you remember what you would say to me?" I see her eyes lighten. "Well do you remember?" I can see tears pooling in her eyes.

"It's ok Ezra mom and dad are fighting for something bigger than them or us. Just have hope and please don't cry." Tears streak down her face. I can feel tears rolling down my face as well.

She falls to her knees, sobbing. Her lightsaber slowly falls out of her hand. "Nightshade I'm so sorry." I raise my saber and...

What did you really think I'd just leave it there. The story continues...

I slash her saber in half, destroying the crystal in the process. I inhale deeply. "Just one question, why?" She looks at me. "I was lonely." My expression softens. "Nightshade you never have to be alone again." She looked up at me slowly. "No. I hurt you Ezra. I need to leave." And with that she stood and turned around. "Nightshade, you don't have to leave." "No I have to. I'm so sorry." The last thing I heard was her footsteps walking down the street and disappearing into the background noise. Tears welled in my eyes. I was losing my sister once again.

I wipe the tears from my cheeks and stand. I take deep breaths before walking out of the alley. I think about her. How I could have helped her. Taken her to Kanan and she would have been fine. If I just would have told him sooner he would have went to the end of the world to help her. I stop trying to think of it. I continue down the street. The sun is starting to go down. Hera's going to start getting worried. I star to make my way back to the Ghost.

I let my mind wander. I think of when Nightshade and I were kids. We would run around the house. We would play outside among the fields. I smile. I hope she does alright. I still love her. There's no way I could stop loving her. She's family. My family.

I can see the Ghost in the distance. Hera's standing outside.

Hera's POV

I wonder what's taking him so long? I think worrying. I look out over the horizon and see a small figure walking towards the Ghost. I wave and he waves back. Ezra walks up to the Ghost. I can tell he's been crying. "Ezra what's wrong?" I ask. He smiles. "Nothing Hera. Absolutely nothing." I smile, pulling him into a hug. He hugs back. "Here's the supplies you asked for." I smile and thank him as he walks inside. 

Ezra's POV

I walk to my room. And pull out Kanan's gift. I smile hoping he likes it. I hear my door swish open. "Hey kid." I hear Kanan's voice. I turn and smile. "What's got you in such a good mood?" He asks. "Nothing." I say. He smiles and leaves. 

TIME SKIP

I got up and started to leave the Ghost. I could hear Kanan stir. I went and stand looking at the sunset. "Ezra what's wrong?" I hear Kanan ask. He comes and stands next to me. I turn and look at him. I smile nervously. "Kanan you know that I'm sorry for leaving?" He looks at me. "Of course." I turn back to the sun. "And that I don't ever want to leave you again." He looks at my with worry in his eyes. "Ezra you're scaring me." I turn back to him, smiling. "I thought I'd give you something to say that I'm sorry for all the trouble I've caused." I hand him the gift I'd bought him. He takes it and I can see tears welling. "Oh Ezra it's beautiful." He holds it in his hand for a moment before pulling me into a hug. I hug him back tight. I can feel tears rolling down my cheeks. I don't rub them away this time. "I love you dad." I say through tears. " I love you too son." We break and he puts on the heart shaped pendent and walk back to the Ghost, not as just Master and Padawan, but as father and son.

YEARS LATER

Kanan's POV

I was standing in the center of town when I saw a figure that looked familiar. I tall man standing at the end of the alley. Small strands of blue hair peaked out of his hood. He turns towards me. I see his electric blue eyes. I smile at him, and he smiles back. Then a small boy runs to him and tugs on his hand. He turns to the boy and nods. 

He turns and starts to walk away. I smile knowing that he's alright. Knowing that my son is passing on my teachings. I grab the pendent hanging around my neck and whisper two powerful words.

"Hey kid."

I hope you enjoyed this book and I am sorry for not updating. I'll truly try to update more often. But that's the end of this book. Expect to see Ezra and the Ghost crew again.
