I woke up with a smile on my face and reached over to Drew, only to find his place in the bed was empty. I felt the spot he had spent the night and it was cold, as though he was never here. The dull throbbing pain in the lower half of my body told me last night did happen, but why wasn't Drew here?
His clothes were gone and so was his shoes and leather jacket. I quickly changed into last night clothes and hurriedly brushed my teeth. Throwing my hair in a messy bun I grabbed my keys and made my way over to the Coopers' house. I pressed the bell, waiting impatiently on their porch.
"Hey Maddi what's up?" JJ asked.
"Have you seen Drew?" I asked.
"Not since yesterday morning. I assumed he spent the night with you." She said.
"He did. Well he left this morning, I think." I told her.
"Come in." She said. Jane was making breakfast with Bee.
"Maddi! You came! You hardly come anymore." She pouted cutely.
"I'm sorry. I promise I'll spend more time with you." I gave her a small smile. She reminded me so much of Drew it hurt.
"Are you going to be staying for breakfast." Jane asked, placing palate in front of me.
"Um okay then." I sat down and waited patiently as she piled my plate with eggs and bacon. I didn't have the appetite but I tried to eat something. In the end I just resorted to pushing the eggs around the plate.
"Are you not hungry?" Jane asked, brows furrowed.
"Not really." I muttered.
"What happened?" She asked taking me to the study.
"Just that Drew left the morning before I woke up without even a note or a text. It was supposed to be special and it's kinda ruined." I blushed at the end because I didn't think I should be telling her I had sex with her nephew.
"Maddi there is something I have to tell you. Drew came in this morning and told me to tell he was sorry. He just took a duffle bag and left. He didn't listen when I begged him to stay. He said it was for your own good and that he loved you which is why he had to leave. He needed to do something apparently." Jane took my trembling hands in her own warm, sure hands.
"He told me it was the best night of his night by the way. I could tell it physically hurt him to leave you. He didn't need to say it but he loves you with all his heart. Don't you forget that." I nodded, unable to input my thoughts.
No matter what his intentions were I still felt hurt that he couldn't tell me himself. He didn't say those three words I wanted to hear. The words I desperately needed to hear to make me feel that he didn't just leave me after sleeping with me. I felt so used and played. I let all my barriers down and I wore my heart on my sleeve the whole time and now I felt as though he had taken it and stamped on it.
He had crushed my heart, leaving a gaping hole in its place. I felt empty and emotionless. "I've got to go." I said, slipping my hands away and made my way to the door. I didn't need to look back to see that Jane had a sorrowful look on her face. I didn't need pity. I just needed to think properly. I jumped in the shower, scrubbing every inch of my skin till I felt cleaner and threw on one of Drew's t shirts and an old pair of jeans. I took the keys to my bike and rode to the hospital. I clamped my bike with a heavy chain and made my way to reception. I knew which room he was in so I just made my way up there. He was lying in the same position as when I had left him.
"Hey Jer. I see you didn't move. At least you haven't left me." I laughed darkly. "I know we only just saw each other yesterday but that feels like it was weeks ago. A lot can change within a few hours right? So how have you been? Any improvements? I hope you're healing nicely because we're going back to the ring the moment the doctor gives you the clear. I was thinking of going back today. I think I need it. Did I tell you what Drew did?
