SEVEN YEARS LATERPink and yellow flowers blossoming at the ends of thick green stems, bright flowers were always her favourite. He places the bouquet near the base of the headstone, he lets out a deep sigh and then backs up to admire the old grave, the stone with her name carved on it is now smudge with mud and stained with salty rain water. He sticks his hands in his pockets and stares at the grave like she could be staring back, he hopes she is, he hopes she knows that he still cares. Even after all these years, he still cares.
He feels a small yet caring arm wrap around his and he turns to stare down at his beautiful girlfriend. Her eyes aren't full of despair, only liveliness; her skin isn't deathly pale, it's a delicate tan; her smile isn't fake, it's all too real.
"You okay, Kookie?" She asks and he smiles at her and let's out a heavy sigh.
"Yeah, I'm okay. I've moved on, I just needed her to know that I didn't forget her, even though it's been about thirteen years since her untimely death," he says and she nods but then hits his arm in a playful manner, "you're twenty-three so it's been twelve years, get your math right, idiot," she sneers and he chuckles while sticking his tongue out at her.
"Shut up, Rae," he mumbles and she leans her head in the crook of his neck as an apology, he always loves it when she acts cute.
He squats down by the headstone and runs his fingers against the smooth stone, his fingers rubbing against the indented letters spelling out his childhood best friend's name, he smiles sadly then kisses his fingers and presses them at the top of the grave before standing back up next to Raehee. "Come on, he'll get mad if we're late picking him up, again" she says softly and he nods and grabs her hand, their fingers intertwine as if they were always meant to be attached as one. He runs his skinny fingers over her knuckles, something he always does and she absolutely adores.
They hop into their old yet functional car, the only thing they can afford since they're trying to pull their way through university while balancing their schoolwork with one job each, it's hard but at least they don't have to go back and live with their parents whom they haven't seen since they got out of the facility many years ago.
They speed down the road with the windows wide open and the radio blasting, Raehee sings loudly to the several songs without a care in the world of who hears her, she's given up on trying to stay hidden, being noticed isn't such a bad thing anymore. "Sing louder, I can't hear you," Jungkook teases while keeping his eyes locked on the road ahead of him, she punches his arm softly while they both start giggling. That's the best part about their relationship, they aren't a mushy couple, they don't kiss every two minutes and they don't sweet talk one another and call each other 'baby', they're really just lifelong best friends. That's why their connection will never be broken.
They drive for several minutes, each minute providing laughter and smiles from both of them. They arrive at the airport where parking is always a hassle, they end up parking way in the back since every other spot is taken. They walk hand and hand towards the revolving doors of the airport while Raehee can't stop cackling over the large piece of thick paper with a large bold print she has in her hands. Jungkook shakes his head slowly, "he's going to kill you when he sees that sign," he says and chuckles while she simply smiles innocently. "No he won't, he loves me too much to do that."
"Whatever," he mumbles and rolls his eyes at his sweet and energetic girlfriend who's absolutely ecstatic about seeing their best friend again, even though he may travel a lot it's always exciting when he returns with his same unique smile that they all love so dearly.
