"-and I really love you, Em. I want to spend my life with you, no matter how cliche that sounds... Emery Grace, will you mar-"

BEEEEPPP. BEEEEEPPP. BEEEEEPPP.

"What was that?" I unintentionally interrupted Joe as I looked around for the source of the sound.

"W-What was what?" Joe asked me, caught off guard as I ruined the moment. If I cared to pay attention, I would have noticed the heartbroken expression he had. But I didn't.

I was too busy looking for the beeping sound that was just echoing throughout the park by now. But by the look of confusion on Joe's face and the lack of reaction from the other people in the park, I might as well say that it was just all in my head.

But that's not possible, right?

"Em, if you want to say no, just say it. You don't have to-"

"Em?!" I whipped my head around to find whoever was calling me, unknowingly cutting him off again. I could barely hear anything now. The beeping sound was becoming more clearer and louder. Everything else was beginning to sound like a blur. Everything except...

"Em? Em, sweetheart, can you hear me?"

I was standing up by now, frantically turning around and looking for the person calling me. Someone with a familiar voice. Someone I've never seen for years.

"Dad?" I whispered confusedly as I spun around searching for a familiar face. I felt myself begin to stumble.

"Em, are you alright?" I looked at Joe upon hearing his voice. He had a look of concern on his face as he tried to keep me still. His voice was unclear, as if he was on the surface and I was drowning underwater. But the more I swim, the more I drown, and it's like I'm drifting further and further away from him.

And I can't do anything about it, no matter how much I want to.

I tried to hold his arms and cling on. But I knew I'd sunk too deep and I've already drowned. He held on to me too, his grip was tight and worried eyes focused on me.

But it was too late.

I was falling in the dark with nothing there to catch me.
