The Missed Period
The period that was meant to follow the last one, but never comes, it could be just late, or be the first sign to tell you, you're pregnant.
29th October 2013 (4 weeks 3 days)
Summer's POV
Blah!
I feel like complete and utter shit tonight. I have been here at work since six this morning, it is now ten at night.
I had sent a text to Matt before the switch of shifts, telling him not to bother cooking me anything for dinner. He doesn't like it when I've worked such long hours, in fact, neither do I. Matt has been busy constructing a couple of townhouses in the neighbouring suburb. With his work, he is always home by five each night.
"Summer, go home. Night staff has arrived, you've been here all day." Kelly, the other RN that was on duty with me tonight said. My head was resting on the desk of the nurse's station. I feel so tired, I can barely even keep my eyes open. Resting my head about ten minutes ago as I had a mini micro sleep attack while filling out some paperwork.
"God Kelly, you're a lifesaver." I lifted my head and stretched back into the chair. With a sigh and a yawn. I stood up and filed the forms away, and grabbed my handbag from underneath the desk.
I love working here in the NICU, seeing the new little humans and helping them grow stronger day by day. We had two new arrivals today, so we had a lot of work to do to get them settled in. All the tests and other things that are required to achieve a positive outcome.
"You're not working tomorrow. I hope?" she looked at me with concern. It was never a good idea to come to work the next morning after working extra hours. Plus, I don't think I'll be able to get out of bed in the morning. Everything will be aching, especially my feet.
"Nah, I've got the next two days off. Thank goodness." I smiled at the thought, I get to rest my poor sore feet. Maybe I could get Matty to give me a foot massage with those magic big hands of his.
"Good to hear, see you next time we work together." she gave me a smile and wave as I headed toward the exit.
Once I got into my little car, I wound down the windows and got some much-needed fresh air. The air was still warm from the heat of the day, so it was quite balmy as I started to head towards home. I'm still trying to get used to not lighting up smoke for the drive home. I had quit the day of the wedding, not to just save money but to prepare my body if I fall pregnant.
It's not every day I have a shift, even a double that I get to go home early. Matty should be surprised to see me home early for a change. When I pulled into my allocated parking spot, I noticed Matty's V8, and another car I haven't seen before right behind his.
Who in the hell is here this late?
With tired eyes and sore feet, I dragged myself out of my car and walked slowly up to the front door. Weird? If someone was here, why isn't the living room light on?
As I turned the key to unlock the door, I slowly opened the door. I froze on the spot. The sounds of female soft moans and deep male grunts hit my ears. My heart literally fell to my stomach.
Oh God, oh God! Please, not again! Before I got the chance to flick the light switch, a very horrible memory came back to haunt me.
FLASHBACK 14th January 2011
Matt and I have been dating for just over 5 months now, and everything seems to be going perfectly. We haven't spent much time together this week, due to my nights and his days. I'm missing him badly, I miss being in his arms when he cuddles me in bed.
