The Twelfth Week Ultrasound

Doctors recommend an ultrasound around the 12th week of your pregnancy,  to see how baby is growing and also to detect if there is any health issues regarding your baby,  or babies,  if it finds more than one.

the baby: movement will not be felt but baby is kicking away and can press it's lips together and make facial expressions like frowning and smiling, baby is now 4.5-5cms in length and weighs about 14 grams.

Summer's POV

Sleep didn't come easy for me last night,  I just couldn't stop worrying about the baby. My biggest fear is not finding the heartbeat,  then close behind that was, something was wrong with it. Matt is trying to keep it together for my sake, which is really sweet of him, but I know he's been thinking the same.

"Babe, what's with you drinking all that water?" Matty looked at me strangely, I had just gulped down the remaining drops of the litre of water I needed to have.

"I had to finish drinking a litre an hour before the ultrasound,  it helps to find bubs with a full bladder." I just have to try and hold it in until I'm told to empty it, which I can already tell, is not going to be easy.

"Good luck trying to hold that in." he laughed, comments like that are so uncalled for.

"Shut your mouth, Matt, so not helping, at all." I bit back, and threw the wet dishcloth at him, just after I had finished wiping down the kitchen bench. We have everything packed for the move, which will be taking place the day after Christmas. This is going to be a crazy week for us, and a long one.

"Sorry Babe, so what time are we heading to your mum's house?" he asked as he munched on his apple. I groaned, it's my family’s Christmas dinner tonight, since we all have other commitments on an actual day, and it tends to get a little crazy.

"Around 6, I don't want to get there too early, the later we get there, the sooner we leave." I chuckled, making Matty laugh, he came over to me and swept me into a warm hug.

"I love the way you think, baby girl." I looked up as he looked down and he captured my lips with his.

An hour later

"Babe, will you sit still," Matt said as he put his hand on my knee, to stop me from bouncing my leg up and down. I am dying for a pee right now!

"I can't hold much longer honey, I'm about to explode," I whispered since we are sitting in the waiting room in the radiology department of the hospital. At least the magazine selection here is updated,  and the chairs are even comfortable,  something better than the doctor’s clinic.

"Summer Taylor?" one of the radiologists named Allie, called my name,  finally!  Matt and I followed her back to one of the rooms that do an ultrasound. I was handed a blue gown to wear,  Matt went in to wait while I changed, hell these things are ugly. I made my way into the room and lied on the bed. My husband came to sit beside me and held my hand.

"Morning Summer, Matt, let's get this started." she smiled sweetly at me before she got everything ready. She squirted the warm gel on my small bump, which Matt has been attached to even more now. Matt squeezed my hand as Allie placed the wand on my belly.

"You will get a little uncomfortable Summer, just let me know if I hurt you at all," Allie said as she typed on the machine.

"Yeah ok, just watch the bladder." I giggled, that would be so embarrassing If I couldn't hold it in any longer.

"See what I can do." she chuckled, Matt and I both had our eyes glued to the monitor once it came to life. Allie was starting to move it around, right above my pubic line, and that's when we saw it, our little baby, moving around inside my belly. It’s one of the happiest moments, right now seeing our child for the first time.
