*BEEP* *BEEP*
I reach over and press the 'off' button on my alarm clock. I put the covers back over my arms and try and get back to sleep. But then I realise, I have a busy day ahead of me and I will have time to sleep on the plane, but now I need to get up.Once I am dressed in my blue trousers, my white top and my black trainers, I brush my long ash-blonde hair and fix my parting in the middle. My hair has always been so wavy, with tiny curls at the back. It's good in a way because I never have to straighten it or curl it, it's kind of in between. I open my waredrobe and pull out my large case, nearly dropping it on my foot. I open the zipper and pull out my make up bag ready to do my eye liner and my dark make up.
Once I am finished, I head downstairs for breakfast before I set out to the airport. Everyone is already at the table when I get downstairs, including Sharon, my care worker and the home owner, Tony. I smile and sit down ready to eat my toast.
I wonder what food they have in L.A. I imagine huge drinks with ice and peices of lemon lime in them, and I imagine dishes of all different types of food and lovely restaurants where you get to dress up and wear expensive jewellery. I have always dreamed of going to a posh meal, I bet it's lovely.
"It's your last day today, huh?" Megan, one of the other children who is sitting opposite me says. She is sixteen now and has only been in the home for year. She doesn't smile at me, but then again, she never really has.
"Um, yeah." I say, not really knowing what else to say to her.
"Lucky you." Megan says to me, and takes a sip of her orange juice.
After breakfast, I notice I am the last one at the table, before heading upstairs to double check I have my money and my passport, and to grab my case. But when I get to my door I notice that Megan is standing by there looking at me as she holds an envolope in her hands.
'She's wrote me a good-bye letter?' I think as I look at the envolope.
"Hi again. Look Faye, can I talk to you?" Megan looks at me again.
I open the door to my room and she follows me in.
"I know we haven't really been friends since I've arrived. But I wanted to ask a favour, and give you something." Megan stands by the end of my bed and I notice she has tears in her eyes.
I nodd at her to encourage her to continue, as I'm not really sure what to say once again.
"I know your going to LA. A peice of paper slipped out of your diary a few days ago, and it had your plans on for when you arrive there. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snoop." She stops for a second and meets my eye. I kind of feel relieved that at least one person knows where I'm really going, so it doesn't seem like i just disapear.
"It's ok, don't worry. What favour do you want? Ask away." I say to her, and smile to make her feel less anxious.
"I wanted to ask if when you get there, you could call me sometimes and tell me what it's like. I have a dream of going there when I'm your age, in two years. I have wrote my number in the envolope, along with some money that my dad gave me before he brought me here. You need it more than me, you have a big day ahead." Megan hands me the envelope and smiles at me.
I peek in the envelope and I can't believe my eyes. There must be a hundred pounds in there.
"I can't take this, Megan. It's yours. Don't worry about me, I have my dollars that I collected last week." I try and give her the envelope back but she doesn't take it.
"Faye, just take it. Use it to get yourself a phone then, so you can at least contact people. I just want at least someone's dreams to come true." Megan stands up straight and gives me a hug.
I hug her back, with tears in my eyes of how nice she is and I never realised it.
"Good luck." She whispers. After the taxi pulls up outside of the Children's home, i suddenly feel nervous.
'What am I doing?' I think anxiously.
'I'm going to a different country all by myself, unsure of how i'm going to find my Mum, and I'm only eighteen.' But then I think. I have been waiting for this moment ever since I can remember, the moment in my dreams was finally happening. I was starting my new adventure.
And with that, i take a moment to smile as I look at the home, before climbing into the taxi and heading away.
