I run until my legs can't run anymore, and even then I manage to run for a few more meters. I have bad stitch in my sides but I can't stop. If I stop, Chad will find me. I can't see him behind me but he can't be that far behind.
I start to run again down the quiet street, it's getting dark now and if it wasn't for the street lights I wouldn't be able to see much. I see lots of houses at the side of the empty road and without thinking, I turn left into a front porch of one of the houses. I have less than a few options, I can't run for much longer. My stomach rumbles with hunger and I feel physically sick with all I have learnt today. I tremble as I knock the door and wait.
Hoping someone takes pity on me, I knock again.
"Yes, I'm coming." It was a lady's voice.
The door opens and appears before it is an elderly lady, she has her white streaked hair pinned back and she looks in her mid-fifties.
"Good lord." She says as she looks at my grazed and heavily bleeding knees and my tear stained eyes.
"I'm sorry to bother you. I just don't know where to go. I don't want to sound cheeky, but..."
"You can come in." The lady says as if reading my mind. She gestures for me to come in and smiles but she looks confused, which I don't blame her for.
I would be confused too if a girl with bloody knees and tear stained eyes knocked on my door, if I had a house that is.
"Now it's a good job I make enough food for five billion isn't it. Take a seat, you can have some of my veggie burgers and a drink." The lady walks into her kitchen and I follow her and sit down. Her house is so warm and cosy, she has a large fire in her living room and a huge television. Her kitchen is so clean, not like the kitchen in my care home before, now that was messy."Thank you so much. I don't even know why I knocked on your door. I just didn't know what to do." I folded my arms at the table as I spoke. The lady puts the food and the vegetables onto the plate and pours some tea into two flowery-patterned mugs.
"Here you go. So if you don't mind me asking, did you run away from a boyfriend?" The lady walks over to me and places the plate and mug infront of me on a coaster.
I am that hungry I nearly eat it all in one go, but I eat a bit slower so I can speak.
"No. Not a boyfriend. It's a long story." I say as I carry on eating my meal. I take sips of my tea and start to feel full. The lady is sitting opposite me and eats her dinner quite slowly, savouring it, while I eat it fast. I haven't eaten all day, which is unusual for me.
When I have finished my meal I offer to wash up for the lady, but she says just put them in the dishwasher. She goes to the living room and takes a seat and ushers me to sit beside her.
"So, tell me. It's always better to talk about things." She smiles at me and makes herself comfortable.
Where do I start? So much has happened so I decide to start at the begining of how my mum gave me up to protect me, and coming here and meeting my mother, and then finding out I have a dangerous brother. A brother who tried to kidnap me before and got sent to a mental hospital, and kidnapped me again because he didn't want me and my mother to be happy. He wanted to be loved, and would do anything to get it.
The lady sat open-mouthed as I told her everything that has happened. I owe her an explanation of why I turned up on her doorstep. It feels good to tell someone everything and make more senseof it myself."So much has happened to you. I can't believe it. You can stay here until your mother and the officers find you. Phone them and tell them your here." She smiles at me and pats me on the back.
I pull out my phone ands just as I do I have a call.
"Hello?" I answer nervously, thinking Chad had somehow found my number.
"It's me, your mum. Do you know where you are? You escaped didn't you, please tell me you did?" My mum sounded like she had been crying. I understood, as I have been crying most of the day.
"I escaped. I'm at this lady's house. She gave me some of her dinner and said I can stay here until you are here. Yes, it's..." I give my mum the address the lady has told me and I breathe out. Not long now till I am safe.
"Were near there now. We are coming up the road. See you in five." My mum hangs up the phone and I wait patiently for them to come. I look out the window to keep an eye out for them but I'm careful not to be in full view in case my brother comes past.
"I'm Agatha, by the way. At least you'll be safe in a bit. Everything you've gone through, I can't even imagine." She smiles as she switches on the tv and sits back onto the sofa.
"I'm Faye Winters." I smile back at her and then look back out of the window. I suddenly see a police car.
"They are here. Thank you for everything, Agatha." I lean over and give her a quick hug, and I go through the door and down the footpath.I climb into the car and see my mum sitting in the back next to me.
"Oh, Faye!" My mum puts her arms around me when I close the door, and the car begins to drive again.
I put my arms around my mum and let myself cry until I can't anymore. I am finally safe and happy, and I am so glad I found my mother.
"I'm so glad you are safe. I was so scared when Luke told me Chad had found you, I told him all about him and the danger he was to you. I ran straight from the hospital and I told Grace all about you. She said she never wanted to see me again. Just us now, Faye." My mum holds my hand and gives me a positive smile. I smile back.
