Breathless

A/N: I've been working on two other stories on here between the last update for this story and this update, so I apologize for the long wait. Hopefully you'll all like the other two stories once I get them figured out, written, and published.
------------------------------------------------

Blood poured from the walls, flooding the floor of the white room I was trapped in.

I banged against the walls, hoping there was a door somewhere, yelling for someone to help me.

There were no windows or a crack in the walls that would enable me to escape from this room that was now almost completely red; there was only a single light in the ceiling.

I slammed my fist against one of the walls again, only to be greeted by blood spraying my face, causing me to immediately back away from the wall and further into the sticky, warm blood that now reached my chest.

There were only a few spots of white left on the walls as blood continued pouring down.

I yelled for help again as the liquid reached my neck.

I'm never getting out of here. I thought. Nobody is even on the other side of these walls.

I tried banging on the ceiling to break something...anything other than the light. I tried. I tried so hard, but nothing was working. I was going to die here.

I took one last gulp of air before the blood had completely filled the room.

Nothing could be seen through this mass of red, and it stung my eyes. Eventually I couldn't hold my breath any longer, and my lungs filled with blood as I drowned.

-----

Gasping for air, I shot up in bed, drenched in cold sweat.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Elijah, it's okay." a familiar voice said beside me.

My head whipped to the side to see Ryan sitting beside me with his legs crossed; a mass of concern clouded his blue eyes as he looked at me.

"You're okay, Elijah. It was just a bad dream."

I still felt like I was choking.

"You're safe. You're alive."

It took me a moment to process that his hands were around my throat, cutting off my airflow. I started panicking again, which only made it worse for me.

"Just calm down; you're okay."

-----

I shot up again, screaming. It didn't take long for a nurse to barge into the room.

"Elijah, it's okay." the nurse said.

I barely heard her over my terrified screams.

A few seconds later, another nurse came in, and I felt a sharp pain in my neck as I stopped screaming.

My breathing began to slow as I quickly passed out from the sedative, rapidly descending back into a world of mystery and darkness.
