A/N: Guess which character is in the picture.
-----------------------------------------------"You can't be serious about this." I said.
"It's a very simple matter, Elijah. We can't keep Ryan locked up in that room forever. He's going to have to learn how to function normally and in a sane manner before we can begin working on further treatment for him." Dr. Saunders explained.
I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"Was introducing me to him my punishment?" I asked after a moment.
"Yes,"
I dropped my hand and gave him a look.
"I murdered someone, and your idea of a punishment for that was to practically shove me into a dark room with a super crazy person for a few minutes?"
"It's an unorthodox method, but we had to show you what you would've potentially become, had you continued killing people."
I gave him a disapproving, incredulous look, stood up from the comfy leather chair and stormed out of his office.
"Hello, brother." I heard a familiar, maniacle voice say.
I flinched violently, wrenching my body away from the direction of the voice.
Looking back, I saw a slender, young man standing by Dr. Saunders' office door. He had pale, smooth looking skin, vibrant blue eyes, and medium length black hair that reached just past his thick, arched eyebrows and was mostly covered by the hood of the black hoodie he wore. The corner of his pink lips pulled up ever so slightly to form the faintest of smirks as he looked at me.
It took me a moment to process his words and recognize his voice.
"Ryan?" I said, finally.
"The one and only." He said.
He didn't look anything like I had expected. I imagined him with longer hair that stuck up in all directions, like Edward Scissorhands, had red tinted, brown eyes that were sunk in and had dark circles around them, lined with red, like he hadn't slept for a second in a month, and with a much scrawnier body frame.
But no.
He was actually very attractive. No incest or homo intended! It's a fact, not an attraction.
"I thought you weren't going to be released yet?" I said after a moment of taking in his appearance.
"Is that what you and Dr. Saunders were just talking about?"
I nodded.
"He was pretty late on delivering that information."
"You think?"
He nodded slowly before we lapsed into silence, just staring at each other.
I didn't know what he was staring at me for, but I was watching him in case he tried to hurt me, but there was no hint of violence in his eyes that was directed towards me; he was only standing a couple of feet away from me, so he could make any move to hurt me at any second.
Just then, Dr. Saunders walked out and stopped dead in his tracks the second he saw Ryan.
"Get away from him, Ryan." He said firmly.
Ryan's eyes darkened and narrowed immediately after he heard that, quickly followed by his eyes driving to the side, as if he were trying to glare at Dr. Saunders without turning his head.
"Now," Dr. Saunders commanded.
The top of Ryan's lip twitched, like he was trying not to snarl.
"Ryan, don't you dare make me tell you again."
Ryan actually looked like a snarling wolf, and I could've sworn I heard a growl. He looked like he was ready to literally tear him apart if he touched him, and it was scaring me.
Dr. Saunders started towards him, and Ryan immediately ceased the snarling look- but kept the darkened eyes- and stormed off down the hall, away from Dr. Saunders and I.
"You don't want to be alone with him." He said after a brief moment.
I gave him the dirtiest look I could muster up.
"Oh, really?" I said as sarcastically and with as much hostility as I could use. "Is that why you locked me in a room with him?"
I didn't wait for a response from him, and something triggered an instinct to follow Ryan, so that's what I found myself doing.
------------
After about ten minutes of searching, I found him hiding away at a table in a corner of the cafeteria, sitting cross-legged on one of the chairs, occupying himself with slowly stirring a cup of tea.
"Ryan?" I called softly.
His eyes shifted to me before lifting his head a bit, acknowledging my presence.
"You okay?"
His gaze shifted a bit away from me before he dropped his head and gaze back to his tea.
"Do you mind if I sit with you?"
He looked up at a seat across from him, jerked his head towards it, and I took a seat.
"Why did you react that way, earlier? Why the snarling, hostile look?"
He was silent for a moment.
"He tells me to try to make friends here, but whenever I try to, he orders me to get away from them."
"Why does he do that?"
"Because he knows what I did."
"What did you do?"
He glanced up at me, but didn't say anything, then glanced back down after a moment.
I hesitated before speaking again.
"Why are you here, anyway?"
He instantly stopped moving, and I'm pretty sure he stopped breathing, too.
An eerie silence followed.
"Ryan?"
He shot up from his seat and started storming out of the room before I even finished saying his name.
I leaped up, stumbled towards him, and grabbed his arm, causing him to wheel and instantly wrap his hands around my throat.
My eyes widened and my heart slammed against my ribs while he looked straight into my eyes as he squeezed.
I couldn't breathe, and I swore he was going to kill me right here, right now.
But something suddenly changed in him. His eyes lightened, as if he had recognized who I am, and when he realized what he was doing to me, his eyes widened and he quickly removed his hands, letting me drop to the floor, gasping for air.
"Elijah...I...I-I didn't mean to-" he said after a moment, cutting himself off before kneeling in front of me.
I was still struggling to breathe.
He touched my shoulder, and I wrenched myself away from him.
I looked into his eyes, and saw nothing but concern and guilt in them as he backed away, but didn't stand.
"Elijah-" he fumbled over some words. "I-I'm sorry."
Once I could breathe, I couldn't help the next words that came out of my mouth.
"What are you?" I said.
His expression changed, though not by much. The guilt and concern was still there, but there was something else mixed in that I couldn't read. I didn't know if I should be afraid or not, so I just crouched there on the floor, staring up at him as he did the same.
