"Elijah," a muffled voice said.

There was a sharp pain in my skull, and I felt completely drained of all my strength.

"Elijah; wake up." The voice said again, clearer this time.

All I saw was the blackness of the back of my eyelids; I barely had the strength to open them, and it took me a few trials to keep them open. I spazzed out briefly when I realized I wasn't at home.

"Hey, hey, hey...Elijah." The voice was normal, but flooded with concern. I flinched and jumped violently when I felt someone touch my shoulder, wheeling to see Derek crouched next to me. He put his hands up in a surrendering manner. "Hey; it's all right. I'm not going to hurt you." His eyes were dark with concern.

I rapidly scanned my surroundings in a paranoid manner, trying to figure out where I was- which wasn't easy with all this adrenaline flooding through my veins and anxiety consuming me. All I caught were glimpses of shadows and shapes in a wide canvas of white.

"Take it easy; just breathe, okay? Can you do that?" He asked.

I was panicking so much, I wasn't even sure if I was alive or not, much less whether or not I was even breathing. I'm in a room; that much I've pieced together so far.

"Elijah,"

I couldn't focus.

"Elijah, please calm down. They're going to have to sedate you again if you don't calm down."

'Sedate me again'?! I thought, panicking even more- if that was even possible. I looked at Derek with fear in my eyes. When was I sedated?!

"It's all right. It's me; it's Derek." He was trying to calm me down; I picked up on that now.

The sound of rapid beeping appeared among the very few things I could hear at the moment, and it took me a moment to realize it was the sound of a heart monitor.

Am I in a hospital? I thought.

"You're okay; just please calm down."

It took me a moment to realize I was still looking at Derek.

"Are you there?"

I couldn't make myself react in any way; it was like I was slammed into a random body and didn't have any control over it.

"Elijah; can you hear me?"

I found a way to control something in my body, and I squeezed my eyes shut and averted my head. I was completely overwhelmed by absolutely everything happening to me right now. The lack of sight helped my rapid breathing pattern, and I heard the rapid beating of the heart monitor gradually slow down.

"Is everything okay in here?" A woman said.

"I don't know; I-I think so." Derek said.

"What did you say to him to cause his heart rate to spike so dramatically?"

"He just woke up and started panicking. I tried to calm him down, but it didn't work; he seems to be calming down now, though."

"He might need to be sedated again."

I heard the beeping speed up slightly.

"Don't sedate him; just give him some time."

"Alright; alert the doctor or a nurse if you need to."

After a moment, I slowly opened my eyes again. I was sitting on a bed with a death-grip on the side of it with my legs hanging over the side.

"Elijah?" Derek said softly.
