Leah's POV
"Leah, get the fuck up," My older sister, Jazz yells at me from downstairs. Sighing I stand up and make my bed quickly, forcing myself to take a shower, of course with cold water. For three reasons, To wake myself up more, my sister used all the hot water, and to hopefully help make my cuts and bruises on my arms and legs, from thrown wine and beer bottles, somewhat feel better.
After my shower I get dressed in white knitted tights and a creme colored long sleeve sweater dress. I put on a black lace headband and grab my bag before rushing downstairs, trying not to limp as I walk past my dad and Jazz. The more pain I show just makes them want to hurt me again. I grab my car keys and walk out the front door ignoring the death glares from my dad and sister.
Once I get into the car I paid for with the money I earned from my job waiting tables at a very popular local cafe I grab my phone and pull my camera up, checking to see if I had any visible bruises on my face. Not seeing any I put the key in the ignition and quickly drive to school.
Once I get there I park my car and walk to my locker, grabbing my books and rushing down the hall to my class. That is until I run into someone, making my fall back and hit my butt, quite hard, on the tile floor of my school. Some kids who happened to see started laughing. I quickly stood up and mumbled a sorry, not daring to look up and see who it was.
"It's fine just watch where you're walking, oh and a little bit of advice, look up while you walk, maybe you wont run into anymore people," the voice said. I slowly looked up at him, my eyes growing more and more wide.
"I'm-I'm sorry Dustin, I was just trying to get to class early," I mumbled, hearing more laughing, and some whispers from the other people staring. He let out a long sigh and shrugged.
"Just don't let it happen again..nerd," He mumbled the last part and walked away.
Dustin's POV
I was pretty early to school so I didn't have to deal with my drunken mother and her yelling. I didn't want my younger sister to either so I woke her up early and got her ready for school. I dropped her off at her first grade class and walked in. It was still only 7:05, so I decided to just wait at my locker until the bell rang. As I walked down the hall a small body crashed into mine, falling on the ground. I took in a deep breath, trying not to get angry.
"Sorry," the girl mumbled and stood up, keeping her head low. I felt a wave of guilt and care washed over me, but I quickly changed my expression. I'm not letting myself go soft because a girl ran into me.
"It's fine," I answered bluntly, "just watch where you're walking, oh and a little bit of advice, look up while you walk, maybe you wont run into anymore people." She looked up at me. It was the schools shy girl, not to mention nerd, Leah, she had a scared look in her eyes. Do I really scare her that much? She ran into me, not the other way around, but then again I'm Dustin-fucking-Hoffman, everyone is scared of me.
"I'm-I'm sorry Dustin, I was just trying to get to class early," she said quietly. I already saw the people laughing at her, I don't really understand why though, she only ran into me. There's no reason to laugh at her, but I'll admit, it's kinda funny. I just let in a long sigh along with a shrug.
"Just don't let it happen again..nerd," I mumbled the last part, not wanting to talk to her anymore. I walked off to my locker and grabbed my stuff, going to first period once the five minute warning bell rang.
Leah's POV
I stood there for a second before continuing to walk to my first period class. Sitting in the front row, my homework already turned in. I stayed quiet throughout the class, answering questions, only when I was pretty much forced to. Once the bell rung I quickly packed my stuff and started to walk out of class.
