Unpredictable (Pokémon Fanfic)

Peridot doesn't look like he's enjoying himself right now. He looks scared or at least very nervous.

"Can't we just fly there," Peridot asks Jasmine. The answer is no. Apparently right now Lance is allowing no flying in the region whatsoever. He thinks that it will make it easier to track Kalos 'initiates' as he called them. That's absolutely stupid but he's the champion. He makes the rules.

Jasmine tells him about the order and he looks upset. "I want to get this over with as soon as possible."

Jasmine sighs. "I don't see what the issue is Peridot. We're not..." She trails off. "You know what? Forget it." She sounds exasperated. I assume they had a similar conversation last night. "Let's just go," she continues.

"...Wait," I say. "You're coming with us?" I did not sign up for this. Jasmine is a sweet girl and means well but she's unbearably annoying.

"Just until we reach Olivine City. Then the two of you are on your own."

Thank Xerneas. It's not that I don't like her, it's just... Huh. I guess it is that I don't like her. Something's just off about her.

Peridot on the other hand, seems a little more upset. Why? Jasmine is his cousin. He should be happy he's not traveling alone with a stranger. Well, at least someone he thinks is a stranger.

...I guess I just don't understand people.

We've been walking for a few hours now. About four. Maybe five. I didn't realize Olivine was this far away from Ecruteak.

Peridot looks even more nervous. He's constantly checking around him. His hand in his pocket and constantly shifting, like he's ready to pull out a Pokéball.

"H-hey? Stephanie," he whispers. I can just barely hear him. I look at him as acknowledgement but he doesn't look at me. He keeps his head down.

"Do you see those people," he whispers lowly. "On the cliff over there? Don't look at them directly."

I turn and play as if I'm looking at the berries on the trees at the base of the cliff. Sure enough I can just make out two figures on the top of the cliff. They seem to be following us.

"Yes, I see them," I tell Peridot. "Is it just me or are they staring at us?"

"They are," Peridot says. He says something afterwards, but I can't really hear him.

Maybe it's not that important. It could just be a coincidence. In fact, maybe they're not even-

"Noivern, Supersonic!"

"Andi, counter it!"

One of the people atop the cliff had sent out a Noivern while Peridot sent out his own Pokémon, a Mantyke. Both Pokémon use Supersonic and surprisingly Andi is able to match the Noivern.

"What just-" Jasmine starts but is cut off by the people on the cliff.

"Noivern, Hurricane!"

Peridot sends out another Pokémon, this time a Glaceon. "Lumi, use Blizzard!" The two moves collide in midair but the ice and snow from Blizzard manage to overcome the strong winds of Hurricane. Noivern is hit directly and takes a lot of damage.

Noivern lands on a ledge on the cliff. A Slurpuff is sent out by the other person on the cliff.

"You idiot," the Noivern trainer yells. "That woman is the Steel type gym leader." I don't hear the Slurpuff trainer's response. However, unfortunately for them, Jasmine has already sent out her Skarmory.

"Skarmory use Steel Wing please." Skarmory squawks and its wings glow silver and she speeds to Slurpuff not giving it time to dodge. But Skarmory doesn't stop there. She turns and goes towards Noivern, hitting it just as hard.

Well that was a bit unnecessary.

"Noivern, Super Fang on that Glaceon."

"Cinnamon, use Fairy Wind!"

Noivern opens its mouth and its fangs glow and elongate. It opens its wings and soars towards Lumi. Meanwhile, the orb on top of Cinnamon the Slurpuff's head glows bright pink and a sparkling pink wave of air sails towards the three Pokémon.

"Andi, Wide Guard! Lumi, use Barrier!" The little Mantyke spreads her wings and a reddish shield covers her as well as Lumi and Skarmory. The Fairy Wind hits the shield and disperses.

Lumi, in addition to the reddish shield, creates a glass-like shield in front of it. Noivern hits the translucent shield. It starts to crack very slowly and eventually Noivern breaks through to carry out its attack. Lumi doesn't look very affected.

"Skarmory, will you use Flash Canon."

"Okay, Lumi. Follow up with Ice Fang."

Both Pokémon charge up and land their attacks. Cinnamon is sent flying back to her trainer while Lumi jumps a safe distance from Noivern.

The two trainers that attacked us recall their Pokémon. "Dammit Camille," the Noivern trainer grumbles. "I told you we should have waited." The other one, Camille, responds but they're running away by then.

I look to Peridot. His Mantyke is nuzzling him while Lumi returns itself to its Pokéball. Peridot giggles as he pets Andi before thanking it and recalling it.

"Perry," Jasmine begins, "what was that about? Who were those two trainers? What just happened?"

"I don't know. I-I really don't." He looks like he's desperately trying to stay calm. It isn't going too well. "Ja- The, um, people we're looking for told me about them. They're members of The Razor Corps."

He pockets Andi's Pokéball. "If that one was Camille then the other might be Lilac."

I frown. "Those names don't sound familiar." I've met all of Johto's Flash Corps reps and while I don't remember their names, I'm sure none were named Lilac and Camille.

Peridot doesn't respond to that. "Let's just keep going to Olivine. It shouldn't be much further. Besides, they might come back."

Okay, so I'm starting to rethink this whole traveling thing. The way things are going I might as well have took the risk and worked from home.

Still, maybe Peridot can offer me some help. His Pokémon seem to be of decent strength and it looks like he knows at least something about the situation in Kalos. Besides, if my memory serves me right, he was 'friends' with Sage when they traveled together...

I just feel like I should say something here but there isn't much to say...

Um, anyone excited for Sun and Moon? I'm getting moon and choosing Popplio! How about you guys?
