Chapter 13

I tapped my alarm clock and peeped out from under my thick comforter. The bold red letters read 5:30. I wiped my eyes and pulled the covers back. Immediately I regretted it.

The central air was full blast and it was freezing in my room. I rubbed my bare legs and walked to my closet.

It was a huge closest really, bigger than what I really needed, despite all my clothes I still had tons of space to fill.

I selected a pair of shorts and white tee and slipped it on while walking to the bathroom.

I did my usual bathroom routine which consist of me brushing my teeth, washing my face, and using the bathroom.

When I was finish, I slid on my tennis shoes and walked down the stairs, fixing my dreads as I went.

I looked in my fridge for something quick to eat but I wasn't much. Just left overs that my neighbors gave me and water bottles.

I took out a cold chicken wing and water and sat at the table, there was a low rise window right next to me.

There was due still on the grass and cars were pulling out their drive ways. These people must work early.

I spotted Mabel looking out the window, resting her wrinkled arms on a pillow she placed on her windows edge, looking up and down the strewn, even glancing out my home a fee times. Nosey bat.

I threw the remains of my breakfast into the garbage and walked towards front door.

I stood on my patio and did a few stretches I seen Rodney do every morning before he ran. I told myself before I moved here I wanted to run every morning to relive Rodney spirit in some way.

I plugged in my headphones and started down the street.

My music was very loud so I didn't hear when the man with the glistening muscles ran up on me, but I felt his presence immediately.

He ran on the side of me and flashed a smile and gave a little wave, I smiled and kept running.

We ran like that fit a short while, both quiet and listening to our music, watching the sun rise waking the neighborhood. He tapped my shoulders.

" I didn't get your name".

I slowed down. Before I moved here I thought about changing my name and whole identity, but apart of me didn't. Even though my life was fucked up, I still didn't want to let go of Mya because everything I went through in life made me who I was today.

"Mya". I finally came to a complete stop just a few steps away from my house. I reached out my hand for a shake. " Yours?".

"John". He reached out and have my hand a squeezed.

"Thanks for helping me move the other day." I looked into his broad face, his cheekbones were high and his eyes were shaped like almonds, he looked so perfect, almost too perfect.

"No problem". And then quiet. The crickets were still out and they were chirping away, I could feel the sun rays on my back as it continued to rise. I looked around and again I seen Mabel out her window, staring me and John down. This lady was nosey and I wasn't feeling it at all.

"I guess I'll see you around the neighborhood". I turned on my heels and started jogging to my porch.

John let out a cough. "Do you want to, oh I don't know, go out for breakfast? I know this wonderful restaurant down town. Best southern breakfast ever".

"No thanks". I leaned on my front door playing with a loose string on my shirt. "I want to try and familiarize myself with the city ya know? Since I'm new and all. Plus I need groceries. Cant keep eating chicken for breakfast". We both let out a nervous chuckle.

"I can tag along if you want. Atlanta have some great..". I cut him off.

"I'm a big girl, I can handle it". And with that I walked inside and locked the door behind me. I looked through the peep whole and watched him jog away, his home was two houses down from mine. Shit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I payed a little boy a dollar to help bring all my groceries in, it was way too much for me.
I mastered the city and local city's around, and while doing that I had to refill my has tank of my black infinity twice. I had fun though.
As I put away my groceries a knock cane to my front door. I cautiously walked over and looked through the peep hole. The same little boy that helped me was standing at my door with flowers in his hands.
I opened the door and a bouquet of roses over filled his tiny hands.
"Here mam". He out reached his little arms as far as they would go.
"Who brought these?". My heart was thumping now as I took the flowers away from him, they were even too much for me to handle.
The little boy ran away and I walked back into my home closing the door with my foot. I looked out my living room window and noticed John looking at my house as he walked over to the group of boys that helped me move. They were gonna start a basketball game.
I walked to the kitchen and found three vases for all my flowers, I had to throw some out because they were just too much.
A little white card slipped out and fell to the ground like a leave would fall from a tree. I picked it up turning it over in my fingers before reading the fine print.
"Something to brighten your day for a beautiful woman- John
