It was a gorgeous day in LA. The sun was shining brightly; there were just enough breezes to keep it from being unbearable, and I was beside myself with worry.
Lincoln's words kept replaying in my mind.
I think Connor wants to leave the band.
At first, I had completely dismissed the comment. Connor would never leave Hyper Drive; he loved it too much. As much as he had to sacrifice in order to maintain his lifestyle, in the end nothing could ever tear him away from it. This was his dream. He was given a one in a million chance and he knew better than to throw it away. If nothing else, just the thought of being away from his best friends would keep him there. There was nothing he wouldn't do for the three boys who had now become his family.
When it came to family ties, blood or not, Connor was fiercely loyal. It was one of the reasons I had no doubts that he would stick around to help me with Sophie. But I feared that in this case, his loyalty would result in disaster. If he believed that leaving the band would be the best course of action for his family's future, there was not much that could stop him.
But I was getting ahead of myself. Besides the fact that Connor had been acting strangely whenever asked about work, he was his normal, charming, bubbly self. I had no proof that Lincoln's suspicions were true. I knew that to find out, I would have to ask, but I was afraid of the fire that would spark if I questioned Connor's future in Hyper Drive.
So I smiled up at him as he pushed Sophie's stroller down the street, determined to make the most of our family outing. We were taking our daughter to the local aquarium, seeing as she was too young to enjoy roller coasters and scary rides.
Connor swung an arm around my shoulder as we walked in the front door, using his free hand to skillfully steer the stroller through the entrance. It seemed like a crime that Connor made pushing a stroller look as effortlessly sexy as he did. It seemed like even more of a crime that the things I found sexy now included my boyfriend's stroller steering technique.
We successfully parked the stroller inside the building, opting to carry Sophie throughout the building. After buying our tickets, we made our way through the aquarium, holding Sophie up to the glass so she could stare in awe at the beautiful sea creatures.
"Look, Soph," I cooed as I rested my daughter in the crook of my arm, allowing her to stare at a school of brightly colored fish swimming by, "look at all the pretty fish."
Sophie stared wide eyed at the fish, her small hand reaching out to towards the glass in hopes of touching the exotic looking animals. I smiled at her reaction and looked to the side to find Connor mimicking my grin.
Our sweet family moment was interrupted by a small hand tugging on the hem of Connor's shirt. I looked down to find a girl who looked about seven staring up at him, her black eyes wide with amazement.
Connor smiled sweetly down at her before squatting so they were at eye level. "Hello, sweetheart."
She blushed slightly, lowering her head to look at the floor before returning her gaze to Connor's face. "Connor? Can I get a picture?"
The smile on his face grew as he shifted so he could loosely wrap his arm around her. "Of course, darling."
I smiled as I shifted Sophie into a more comfortable position before taking the girl's camera and snapping a picture.
"There you go," I said as I handed the camera back to her.
"Thank you, Evelyn," she replied shyly.
I blinked at her, slightly taken aback that she knew who I was. "You know my name?"
She nodded enthusiastically, her original shyness fading. "Of course. Every HD fan knows who you are." Her face lit up as she seemed to notice me holding Sophie. "And Sophie's so adorable!"
