I see her donning her red Apron as she prepares for KS. So much has changed... but beautiful core that endeared her to my heart remains.
I saw her when she was a baby sent down from heaven. I still vividly remember how scared she was when she took that first step and appeared onscreen as a yaya to a snobbish affluent lola. She was void of any emotion and was unable to speak, but expresses herself explicitly through dubsmash. And like her movie dialogues that leave a tug in the heart, Yaya Dub made a deep mark.
I saw her when she was a child in pigtails. Her playground was the Barangay who taught her the real colors of life... a mix of vibrant as well as gray hues. It touched her soul that she learned to whisper a prayer of thanks for all that she has, and vowed to be an instrument of God's love.
I saw when she was introduced as a young woman. In the eyes of 55,000 people, she was presented to the world. And though her eyes viewed her as someone plain and unworthy of anything, the world embraced her and transformed her into the most beautiful being through love. And that timid little girl slowly spread her wings...to fly...and soar.
I saw her when she first learned of love. He was the wind beneath her wings that started with an on-screen stare and a first bashful smile. He wrote of love in stanzas that bare his soul and rhyme that dances her to the end of forever. He forged the Ikaw at Ako sanctuary that shelters and embraces them everytime the world becomes cruel and uncertain. He is the reason why all her dreams became clear, and the owner of the hands that clasps hers as she turns these dreams into realities. I see her eating Isaw on the street from a distance. Now, I see a butterfly in beautiful colors who is learning to love herself. She is half of the most phenomenal loveteam, is a lead actress in a movie, and have written a theme song. And though she is fullfilling her dreams, she still remains to be the Yaya Dub that leaves a deep mark on billions of lives.
"Kamustahin na natin ang mga lola sa Barangay. Mga lola, pasok."
I woke up from a trance. It was then I realized Meng was nudging me.
"Uy Lola Nidora take na. Bakit ka umiiyak?"
"Nagiinternalize ako. Kailangan emotional daw ako ngayon at first birthday mo Divina."
She proceeded to practice her dubsmash lines. I secretly looked at her and marvelled at the utmost beauty before my eyes.
I gently wiped away my tears. You have grown so fast. And somewhere in between my countless flaws, I must have done something right to deserve your love.
