Prompt: provide Maine's and Alden's stream of consciousness during the worst nightmare they've ever had
********************************************
Lake Como, Italy. We have always been in awe of this place. They say its a haven for romanticists who wants to have their encounter with love, in its barest and most beautiful form.
And we were one of those privileged souls. Our hearts led us to this place once again retracing every step of love we took.
"Ang ganda ganda talaga dito Love." RJ wrapped his arms around me and sniffed my hair. He looked so handsome in white.
"Ikaw pa rin ang pinakamaganda sa kahit na ano."
"Bolero. Hindi mo na ako kailangan ligawan. You will always have me." I kissed his stubble. He havent shaved for a while.
"Can I have this dance? - RJ
I laughed at the spontaneity but took hold of his hand. We danced to the music of our beating hearts with my hands on your neck and your arms lovingly holding me by the waist. The world shrunk to nothingness as the only thing that mattered is your sweet embrace. And in your arms, I finally understood the purpose why we do exist in this world.
It is to love. To make ourselves matter to someone. And I will forever be indebted to this man who taught me the real meaning of life and love.
"I love you Maine, I will always be here.
"I love you too RJ."
Then the music from our hearts stopped.
He then releases me and turns to go..... towards the lake.
I panicked. I screamed his name from the top of my lungs and ran as fast as my feet could take me. But he does not hear my voice and continues to walk towards the water. Just as I was about to touch him, he was gone. And suddenly, I felt that familiar pang escalating throughout my body causing numbness to my very core.
"I'm so sorry Maine, but RJ did not make it."
There is that painful stab in my heart once again that I know will never fade. And I remember why I still breathe, and why I am at Lake Como, our favorite place.
It is to send my better half home.
I looked back at the blanket and soft pillows. But now, there is only one goblet. But I am not alone. For nestled in the rufffled sheets is RJ's urn. I rushed and hugged him, holding on to every second that I can spend with him one last time.
I lay down crying and broken. Brokenness is a painful thing. Because no matter how hard we try to piece the shards together, the cracks will always remain.
And I will never be whole again.
I cried till the void in my heart consumes me. And when the emptiness is so vast and deep that it echoes that very tiny voice in my head, I stood up to finish what I came here to do.
That tiny voice saying "You have to say goodbye"
I leisurely walked towards the lake painstakingly trying hold on to our final moment together. As I reached the water, I opened his urn.
I turned the urn sideways and scattered his ashes little by little to the lake. And as I was doing this, my heart sang the familiar tune that I will surrender everything to hear once again.
God gave me you to show me what's real
There's more to life than just how I feel
And all that I'm worth is right before my eyes
And all that I live for though I didn't know why
Now I do, 'cause God gave me you
So on one moonlit night, while hugging the remains of my beloved, I sang him my first and last lullabye.
Then, I woke up.
