Fear of the Dark

Chapter 5

Understanding what the moon says is the hardest thing about this job. What does he mean? Is he talking about that I have to pick a side or that I need to pick out of these 6 people who I want to help the most? I don't understand but asking him to clarify is as pointless as asking a potato to dance.

I've been here for about an hour now and still no sign of Pitch. I start to go through the piles of capsules and see if I recognize any of the children on them. After looking around I have found two capsules with familiar faces on. Jamie's and Jack's. I put Jamie's capsule in my pocket for later while I inspect Jack's further. He used to have brown hair and brown eyes but the facial expression screams Jack. I hear the Nightmares as they come from every direction back to the shadows. I look around and but I still don't see Pitch. Then I feel eyes on me from the darkness.

" That's not gonna work, I know you're in the shadows." I say with a playful smirk. I hear a chuckle come from one of the long stairways and see as the black ropes come into view.

" You would think I could at least get a small scare from you, but you seem to be too smart for me." Pitch says as he walks over to me. I stick out my tongue at him like a child.

" How old even are you?" He says sarcastically with a smirk. I give him a playful look as I step forward to meet him.

" Old enough to act like a child." I say as I look up at him and stick my tongue out again as he seems to chuckle once more.

" Does that answer my question?" He then asks looking down at me with a smile. 

" Of course it does." I say sarcastically and give him a very childish smile like I know I'm right. He looks at me after shaking his head at my actions. He inspects me carefully.

" What is that?" He then asks, pulling me out of this playful act. I look down at my hand as I'm still holding Jack's capsule.

" I went digging in the mountains of capsules and found Jack's. He kinda looks cute like this." I say and show Pitch the photo on the capsule. He doesn't agree but I can see the light bulb appear above his head as realization strikes.

" He was talking about the teeth earlier, he said its the reason he's taking their side." Pitch says as he looks terribly happy.

" Can I have that?" He then asks politely. My expression turns blank as I have no idea what he means to do with it but nod anyway and hand it to him. He takes it and a Nightmare appears next to him, taking it in its mouth and swallowing it. 

" You've just given me another chance at this fight." He says as he grabs my shoulders. I'm shocked by this motion and he pulls me into a hug. Again this will always be strange. He usually frowns on this type of affection. 

As he lets me go he starts acting very silly, dancing around and humming songs I'm familiar with. He then comes up to me once again.

" My lady. May I offer you this dance?" He then asks as he bows in front of me with his hand out stretched waiting for my answer. I haven't seen him this playful in about 200 years.

" Yes you may." I say laughing at his weird behaviour. I take his hand and he stands up straight. He leads me to a floor big enough to dance on. We stop and he turns to me, garbing my waist as I reach for his shoulder. After getting into position we start dancing. I've never done this before with him, this is very strange that he would ask me to dance. 

I brush it off and focus on not stepping on his toes. 

Jack's POV

After listening to Peter Cottontail's inspirational speech we head to the Warren.  The look on Bunnies face when North said that this time Easter is more important then Christmas was hilarious though. Bunny then opens up the ground making us fall into a huge hole. The only thing that he said before he tapped his foot was " Buckle up". Making fun of North as he said it before.

We arrive at the Warren after a bumpy ride through a long tunnel. Its very beautiful here. Very green and it looks like the definition of spring. But as Bunny welcomes us to the Warren he turns around quickly. Sniffing and moving his ears all around the place.

" Something's wrong." He then says in a low voice. As he closes his mouth small creatures, that look like eggs with feet, come running from a tunnel. That alarms the rest of us as we hear footsteps come from that tunnel. We arm ourselves as we head running for the tunnel. But to our surprise it's not anything we should be fighting. Its just Sophie, Jamie's little sister. 

" What is SHE doing here?" Bunny yells at us. North looks at him, smacking his fur jacket.

" Snow globe..." He says after a small silence. Bunny doesn't look very happy. 

" Crikey! Somebody do something!" He then calls out looking at me. I shrug.

" Hey don't look at me, I'm invisible.. Remember." I say with a faint smile on my face as I keep and eye on Sophie. Sophie looks like she really likes that elf she's dragging across the ground.

" Don't worry Bunny, I bet she's a fairy fan." Tooth then says as she flies over to Sophie and strikes a pose.

" It's okay little one." Tooth then says as she makes comforting gestures to Sophie.

" Pretty.." Sophie says as she looks at Tooth. Tooth seems very happy with this encounter.

" Awwe, You know what? I've got something for you." Tooth then says as she looks like she has something in her hands. Sophie gets exited and steps on her tipy toes to try and see what Tooth has.

"Here is is. Look at all the pretty teeth, with little blood and gum on them." Tooth then says as she shows Sophie the teeth that are not very pleasing to the eye. Sophie looks at Tooth for a second and then runs away screaming. I laugh at the poor child.

" Blood? Gums? When was the last time you guys actually hung out with children?" I say as I fly after Sophie who went to scare the egg creatures some more.

" We are very busy bringing joy to children. We don't have time... for children." North then says much to my surprise. I look at the Guardians as Sophie runs around some more.

" If one little kid can ruin Easter, then you're in worse shape then I thought." I say as I blow out a snowflake that Sophie follows. It hits Bunny in the face and you can see his expression changing. He goes with Sophie and asks her if she wants to help paint the eggs. He then helps her on his back and starts running with the eggs. There are millions of eggs here that have to be bright and colourful for tomorrow morning. How are we suppose to to this? 

Luckily we have some yetis and some kind of flowers that paint the eggs as well as rivers that the eggs fall into to become even more colourful. 

After most of the eggs are ready and start to go to the tunnels for each continent Bunny brings Sophie to watch the eggs leave. She seems tired so she climbs into his arms and Bunny holds her tight, letting her sleep. I sit next to Bunny as Sophie climbs into his arms and look at all the eggs.

" Look, I'm sorry about the kangaroo thing." I say, apologizing about our fight when we spat at the Pole.

" It's the accent, isn't it'" He says smiling. North and Tooth then come to us.

" Awe, poor little ankle biter, look at her.. all tuckered out." Bunny says as Tooth sits next to him, staring longingly at Sophie.

" I love her." Tooth says with love in her voice. A small silence then occurs as we listen to Sophie fall deeply asleep.

" I think its time to get her home." Tooth then says picking Sophie up.

" How about I take her home?" I say. I really want to take her home. She is adorable. Plus I know the house better then them.

" Jack no, Pitch is out there..." Tooth says but I cut in.

" He's no match for this. " I say pointing my staff at her with a smile.

" Which is why we need you here, with us." Bunny then says with a worried look.

" Trust me.. I'll be quick as a bunny." I say hoping they give me the chance. They all nod to each other but tell Babytooth to come with me to make sure I come back. Why they don't trust is is beyond me.
