The One and Only

Chapter:26

I stood waiting for my turn behind the chutes. Several of the cowboys are still trying to pick me up for a night. A text buzzed my phone. 'Good luck J Bug.' Bonner sent. 'U 2.' I sent back then put my phone in my boot.

"June Hazard." I went up to the chute and gave a man there my bronc saddle. After it was on I got into the chute and adjusted myself on the broad back. The horse reared, I held on.

I nodded and it was show time. Eight seconds later I jumped off the back and the horse was still wild. I held onto the top bar as the horse continued to buck. I climbed out just in time to here my score. That puts me in second place for this rodeo on both events.

I got a second place check then it was time for the bronc riding awards. "In third place......" I didn't hear the name. "In second place Greg Bassit and in first place and the first to make it this far in three days, June Hazard." The arena burst out in cheers and applause.

I got my buckle and the first place check and was able to exit. Once back at my trailer I unsaddled Crugar and groomed him. He nickered as I finished unplating his tail. I patted his back and went into the living quarters. Jack needed to go out so I turned on the module and let him out.

I got a quick shower and put on a baggy tee and a pair of Bonner's pajama pants that I borrowed. He definitely wouldn't miss these. I let Jack in and locked the door. I also swiped one of Bonner's blanket so I had something to cuddle with other than the dog.

Jp curled up next to my back under the blanket. My phone lit up, I answered it sleepily. "Hello." I yawned.
"Miss me June Bug?" I woke fully, no, no, no, not him. I hung up on him and tucked myself closer in the blanket. Finally I fell asleep with my arm around Jack and completely covered by the blanket.

I woke up with traveling in mind. It was about a nineteen hour drive to Goliad, TX. I got up and put my boots on by tucking the pj pants into them.

Across the lot was Bobby I'm guessing he was roping and saddle broncing. I saw he was loading two horses into a two horse trailer. After I put food and water into separate troughs I put Crugar's traveling gear on and loaded him up. Then I put a lead on Jack and turned the module off.

I was now dressed in jeans and a tee with Bonner's jacket on. "Load up." I told the dog. He climbed into the cab and climbed onto the seat. I got in and shut my door. I fired up the truck and left the grounds.

First stop was breakfast at BK. I got two sausage burritos and a Mello Yello to drink with it. I got a water bottle for Jack and paid for it. As I was eating and driving Less talk more action by Toby Keith came on.

"With a little less talk and a lot more action." I sang every time he sang it. Then after that song was Roll on by Alabama. Every two to three hours to I stopped use the bathroom and let Jack go. Once I got back in Yee Haw came on and of course I sang along.

I pulled into a motel in Houston and let both animals out to stretch their legs. My blanket on Crugar said 'goin' ta be famous one day.' After they stretched their legs I put Crugar back in the trailer and fed him. I took a bag and Jack and got a room close to my trailer.

I showered and put on the pjs from last night. Bonner texted me asking where I was heading and I told him Goliad Texas. He sent me a thumbs up before calling. "Hey."
"I miss you so much."
"I know. I'm spending the night in Houston and possibly going to shop a little before hitting the road to Goliad."
"Don't spend too much. What did you get in barrels?"
"I won't spend too much and I got second place."
"Nice keep it up and we'll both be going to Vegas in two trips. One for PBR finals and the other for PRCA finals."
I giggled and started petting Jack. "Sounds like fun."
"Can't wait until Fourth of July." He told me.
"Me either."
"I gotta go baby I'll call you in the morning ok?"
"Yeah I'll be here." I told him.
"Love you June Bug."
"Love you too." I said then hung up.

I got into bed and Jack climbed up onto the bed with me. I drifted off with Jack close by, hoping that Dustin wouldn't find me soon.

I woke up the next morning refreshed. "Let's go Jack." I said to the pup. I got dressed and ready to go for the day. I put my Stetson on my head and walked out with Jack leashed.

Several people were watching as I got Crugar out and let him stretch his legs. Another trailer was parked next to mine. Inside were two beautiful horses. Then a man came to the back as I led Crugar around the grassy area before taking him back up to the trailer.

I tied him to the ring inside and gave him food and water. After that I fed the dog and gave him water. Two trucks pulled up to the motel as I locked the trailer door. LJ and his wife was in one then in the other another rider and Bon got out. I leaned against the trailer holding the dog waiting for him to notice.

Jack looked up and saw Bonner. He yipped and broke from my grasp. I chased after the dog. As soon as Bonner saw the dog he saw me.

He got the lead in one hand then wrapped me in a hug with both. I could stay in Houston another night. He kissed my forehead then let me go.

"When you said you'd call me in the morning last night I thought you'd actually call instead of seeing me." I told him. "And when you said you were in Houston I knew exactly which motel it was. "So how much farther do you have?" He asked.

"About two and a half hours." I told him. "Then let's spend the morning together. When is the first night?" "The eighteenth."
