So, in between the time of February and March, the team had our final game. The game was a little north of Chicago, in the opposite teams town. I was really nervous, and positive that we would win. I invited all my friends at lunch to the game, and they all came. "Now remember, if you lose tonight don't be hard on yourself. This was your best yet. Ok, Cori. Now go, you've got a game to play." My father said before I went in the locker room. "I will," I responded before I turned around. Tonight was gonna be an 'edge of your seat' kind of game. "Oh my god, I can't believe we made it this far." Teuvo said to me before the game started."I mean, we were close last year, but lost the semifinal game." He said, thinking about that moment."Really, that sucks. But I know for sure we'll win." I promised him. Tonight was important to us all. Especially me, knowing that I would be the only girl in the league to win state champions. I saw Artemi with Anisimov, talking about whatever they talk about. I walked toward them, and said, "Hie!" They turned around, and saw me. "Hie." Aretmi responded. He didn't seemed bothered at all about the game. He actually looked more excited than nervous. Then he said something to Anisimov in Russian. "Artemi says,'Are you excited, or nervous about playing?' " It took me a minute to think of what to answer."I'm mostly nervous than excited." I answered. Anisimov translated what I said to Artemi. "Ahhh, I see." He said, like he just realized something. "Well, good luck." I said. We had two min till we had to play. He understood that, and said,"Good luck." And we skated out to the ice. I don't remember what coaches speech was. I was to busy thinking if we were gonna win, or not. The first line went out on the ice. It was the same line since the first game that went out. With our captain Jonathan at center, and Patrick at right wing. And it started with us winning the face-off. Throughout the whole period our goalie made incredible saves that sometimes scared you. It did go by fast, every hockey game goes fast. Nobody scored the first period, nobody. When it was intermission, everyone in the locker room said it was a tough game, but no one really had a conversation. Everyone was deep in thought. When the second period came, Andrew, like an idiot, got in a fight. He didn't start the fight thankfully, so the other guy got in the box. Andrew did win the fight along with the other guy getting the penalty. I saw Courtney cheering Andrew on, when he was in the fight. All the girls from lunch were there with her. The penalty did give us a chance to score. I was on the ice with Artemi, Anisimov, and two other boys I didn't know. We got the puck to the other end of the ice, and did a lot of passing. It must have confused the goalie, and other players, cause once I gave a beautiful pass to Artemi, he shot that puck for a one timer, and scored! Half of the crowd cheered, and I hugged him after he scored. We were so proud of him, he himself seemed more happy & proud than anyone else. It was amazing in the moment. Later in the period, before the next intermission the other team scored. Ugh! We were ahead! Good thing the period was over after they scored. It was still quiet in the locker room. Well, I was in the locker room next to the boys. But when I got back, no one was still talking. It was a little awkward to be honest. But we went with it. We all prayed before we went out for the third period. Knowing what was going on, we all probably prayed for the same thing, and that was to win. The third period went fast, and smoothly. Then all of a sudden with two min left, Teuvo passed me the puck for a breakaway, and I scored. Wait did I just say I scored? Yes! I did! Of course it was the end of the game, and we won! We were state champions! Half, which seemed like the whole crowd, cheered for us. I saw the girls screaming, and jumping up & down with joy. I couldn't hold in the tears of joy, so I cried. I cried tears of joy. "Holy crap!" Teuvo yelled, when he skated toward me. "I know right!" I said through my tears. "Thanks for the pass." I said, "I just wanted to win, and your welcome." He said. We had a little good job hug. He was one of the best friends ever, one. I hugged all my friends on the team, and then bumped into Artemi, like always. "Good job!" He said excitedly, "Thank you! And nice job to you!" I said crying more tears. Just seeing him happy in the moment made me cry more tears of joy. Seeing everyone so happy with glee made me cry. "Tears of joy." Artemi said then put his arm around me for a half hug. "Yes! Yes indeed!" I said as I put my arms around him for a hug. We all took a team picture, pointing up number one. It was another one of the best nights ever. The boys had a party in the locker room, I just went to the girls, and went to Taco Bell with them. I know, not the best choice for dinner, but hey, I just won champions of the state. I deserve a good dinner at Taco Bell. I loved the hockey season. I'm gonna miss it. It was a nice way to end February, and start March. Thank you God.
* * *
Spring break is this week, and I'll be staying home with my other grandparents. Emalee said she was going to Dallas for half of the week. I miss Dallas. It had nice weather, and all my old best friends are there. Not to mention the Dallas Stars hockey team, just saying I miss those games. I'm at my grandparents house now, listening to my brother and cousin Layla fight over something. Layla's sister Abby, my other cousin, she still hangs out my me. Ever since she was three yrs old she's been by my side. I'm the only cousin she loves being with. She hates my brother Austin. I don't even think I ever mentioned my brothers name. Ha, wow me. I'm so smart. We plan on going to the Brookfield Zoo near Chicago, today. It's Wednesday, and I have a whole week of listening to these annoying siblings. Teuvo told me he was going to Finland for spring break. Lucky, he gets to go to Europe. I've always wanted to go to Europe. Teuvo's originally from Finland, and is visiting family there. Still though he gets to leave America. It's alright though, I love going places with my grandparents. They take us to many places in Chicago. Though I would like to be with my friends, I still go with my Grandpa to the movies, or shopping. It was fun at the zoo. I got to see the polar bear, and Dallas definitely does not have polar bears. When I was at the zoo, I ran into Patrick. He was with Jonathan, I figured. They are like the bestest of friends. 'Bestest' isn't even a word, wow me. "Hie! How has your break been?" I asked them. "It's been great," "Yeah it has." Patrick said cutting Jonathan off. "Well that's good, mines been awesome except the fact my brother doesn't cooperate with my cousins." I said."Ha, that sucks, well at least you're enjoying it." Jonathan said. Patrick kind of stood back, smiled and nodded. He was a very quiet man, always has a poker face. You never know what he's thinking. Jonathan probably knows what Patrick's thinking, typical. "Well, we better get going. It was nice seeing you, Cori." Jonathan said, "Bye, Cori. See you next week." Patrick said as they were walking away. It was nice seeing someone from school at a place you wouldn't be able to find anyone. "Who was that?" My brother asked, like he always does. "That was Patrick & Jonathan. I played hockey with them." I said like he would expect me to say. "Oh, ok." Typical Austin. The rest of my spring break was shopping at Hot Topic & Pink, and going to the trampoline park. Also listening to my brother & cousins fight, and go to the movies. My birthdays next month! I can't wait! I hope it's one of the best birthdays ever! Easter this weekend, and it's basically like Christmas except we go to church on Easter, we eat a big dinner at home, and I don't sing in the choir. So yeah typical fashion, we got a small gift on Easter, which was a Pusheen the Cat t-shirt, and got 12 dollars, then went to church. We met my cousins family, and grandma & papa at church. Later that day we to our house for dinner, and play knee hockey. My brother & cousin Owen lost again 12-3 at NHL16 against my dad & uncle! It was hilarious, cause the only reason if they didn't lose was if Owen would shut his mouth, but he didn't. Wow. It was a fun spring break. Can't wait to see my friends at school next week.
