"Your Majesty!"
Everyone scrambled around their houses, trying to find Ross, or at least something that was left of him.
"He must've been with that maniac," someone commented angrily. Other shouted their complainants, too. Jacob was weaving through the crowds, trying to calm everyone down.
"We're searching for them!" He shouts over the noise. He gripped Raini's hand tight. "How do you know?" One shouted in response. "Because I was there! Helping them!" Jacob retorted.
"Well it isn't enough!" Another shouts. "We're doing the best we can!" Jacob felt fire rising up to his chest. Raini clutched his hand, hoping she would calm him down.
And he did.
"We will take volunteers," he said slowly and quietly, as if daring people, "to go and find the king." A few people raised their hands. "Right," Jacob snorted, "Let's go."
~~~
"Here," one man pointed to the burning building. Some of the citizens had helped cease the fire, but it wasn't enough. "More water!" Jacob shouted. He was directing the citizens, so instead of arguing, they were working together.
More water was brought in. The men yelled as they carried a big bucket full of water, and direct it towards the fire. More fire ceased. They could now see a path.
They could now see what's left in Ross's house.
Before Jacob knew it, the citizens started bickering again. Jacob yell out in frustration. Raini glanced around hopelessly, then stepped in front of the citizens.
They stopped. Raini was a respected member in the town. "I want you to start working, we have to do this for the king!" She shouts her ending, and people wooted with her. And for Laura.
Raini had never disliked her. Just the fact that Ross values Laura more than her. The men and women were soaking from head to toe. But they made a clear path for Jacob.
"Be careful!" Raini cried as Jacob stepped into the crumbling building that no one had the courage to step in. Jacob plants a kiss on her cheek as his promise, and he walked deeper into the building.
Please be safe.
Jacob coughed, as he gulps in a big breath, then coughed again. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he struggled tl breathe. More fire was ceasing. He could see Raini's face, comforting, worrying. He remembered his promise with her- a kiss on the cheek.
He staggered forward.
The room was covered. Covered in dust, even some flags that stuck out from the walls. Books scattered on the floor, its pages burnt into a wisp. This is the library room.
And in the middle, lied two people.
The boy squeezed the girl tight in his grasp. His legs are pulled up to his knees, and he covered the girl perfectly. The girl's hair covered her face, and the boy's arm crossed her waist.
Jacob got down to his knees, unable to stand any longer. He crawled to them, and sat by their side. What now? Jacob tried to tug Ross's hand off Laura's back, but the arm wouldn't budge.
Jacob coughed.
No more fire.
He clutched their hands together.
And he prayed for them.
