I sat in the “therapy chair” waiting for Mrs. Hartney. My thoughts drifted back to last night…
“What happened?” Sarah shrieked her eyes wide. She was practically jumping up and down waiting for me to speak.
“Can you at least stop jumping first? Last time I checked you were pregnant.” I said with a smile as I headed into the kitchen and placed my left over McDonalds on the counter. I then walked to the living room and sat down on the couch, Sarah following me.
“So…” She said as she looked at me, motioning for me to continue. “What happened?”
“Where’s Carter?” I asked instead.
“Upstairs, he’s watching a movie.” She replied. “Now stop changing the subject.”
“Okay well he took me to Alcatraz-”
“Alcatraz? Who takes a girl there?” She asked cutting me off.
“Well if you didn’t interrupt I could tell you.”
She stayed silent.
“He…” And I went on telling her about my night.
“Ms. Montey are you alright? How have you been lately?” Mrs. Hartney asked as she entered the room and closed the door behind her. She had her notebook in her hand and took a seat across from me and smiled.
“I’ve been good, great actually.” I replied semi-truthfully.
She nodded her head and jotted something down in her notebook.
“Thank you for coming in today on such short notice.”
“No problem, I wasn’t really doing much anyways.” I replied easily.
“I’m sorry I had to cancel on you last week, I had an unexpected guest.” She said with a smile and a look in her eyes, I raised my eyebrow confused. “My son came to visit me, I don’t see him as much as I would like too.”
I nodded my head not really paying attention to her. Now that I thought about it I just wanted to leave. I shifted uncomfortable in my seat.
“How have you and Caleb been?”
“Good.” I said through gritted teeth as I thought about how guilty I now felt about going out with Anson. I mentally groaned. “He’s in New York until Saturday.”
“Are you two doing alright?”
“Better than before.” I replied and that was the truth.
Mrs. Hartney nodded her head and wrote more things in her little black book.
“How are you doing? Is your job okay?”
“Yes, I actually have to work in a few hours.” I looked at my watch it was only 11 AM, I had to start work at 4 PM.
“How are you and your mom?” She asked me, her eyes focused on my every movement. I tried my best not to squirm or move.
