I stepped into the office and found Mrs. Grant sitting at her desk. She looked up and smiled at me happily.

“Hello dear,” She greeted me looking at her watch. “You didn’t have to come this early dear.”

“I know I just didn’t want to be late. You know how bad the traffic can get,” I told her kindly not wanting to add in the fact that I had nothing else to do and was desperately trying to ignore Sarah and Anson all day.

“Well you look beautiful as always,” She told me, putting her paperwork away and standing up, grabbing her purse off her desk. “I want to thank you again for coming with me.”

“No problem Helen,” I replied giving her a genuine smile. “It’s my pleasure.”

“Well we might as well get going,” She said as I followed after her.

“May I ask where is it we are going?”

“Oh, I didn’t tell you?”

“You mentioned it was a dinner party.”

“Yes it is, I wanted to bring you specifically because the editor of New York Times wants to meet you.”

I stopped walking, frozen in shock. Did I hear her right?

“Wait? Did you say the editor of New York Times wants to meet me?” I asked her speechless. She stopped and turned around to look at me a smile on her face and twinkle in her eyes.

“I showed her some of your articles and I told her about your situation and she was hooked. It also helps that she’s an old colleague of mine.”

“Helen, I don’t know what to say. Thank you so much!” I cried happily, hugging her. I couldn’t believe she would do this for me, give me this big break. If I told Caleb about this we could move on with our lives. Caleb would be so happ- guilt washed over me as I remembered what I had done earlier this day. And as if a reminder my phone started ringing in my purse.

I pulled away from Helen and excused myself. She said she would meet me in the lobby. I opened my purse and pulled out my phone to see that once more it was Anson calling. Sighing heavily I pressed ignore and went to catch up with Helen.

The driver opened the door of the limo and Helen stepped out, I followed her lead. She ushered me at her side as we walked into one of the best restaurants in San Francisco, the Waterbar. It was beautiful. I had yet to come here and I could now understand why so many locals would fight their way to come here and even face the wave of tourists.

The glass windows had an amazing view of the bay bridge. There were floor-to-ceiling cylinder aquariums full of brightly colored exotic fish. The room felt like you were in a whole new other world. There were men in finely tailored suits and women in highly expensive dresses. Some mingled and you could hear the chatter and light laughter fill the room.

“You think this is amazing, wait till you try the food,” Helen said catching my eye and smiling at my wonderstruck expression.

We were led to our table that was seated for a dozen or so picture. I raised an eyebrow but ignored it and I looked around the room, taking everything in.

“So Evony, how are you doing?” Helen asked me as we got ourselves situated.

“I’m doing fine,” I replied. She raised her eyebrows and looked at me really looked at me, giving me that motherly look. I sighed. “I am doing better, it’s just, everything’s different. I’m still getting used to all the changes. And my dad’s one year is in a few days.” I confided; she always had her ways of making me do that.
