“So…” I started to say as to end the silence between us, not entirely sure if he could hear me over the motor of the boat.

We sat only an arms span away from each other as the cold night air swirled around us, making my hair go in all sorts of directions. The only thing I could hear was the boat smashing its way through the water and the motor of the boat buzzing awfully loud. Only now did my body register that it was chilly. I wrapped my arms around myself, freezing.

Anson seeming to have noticed my discomfort took off his own coat and placed it around me, his arm also being placed upon my shoulders. His body heat made my insides tingle. I mentally sighed. So many emotions were swirling within me that I couldn’t even understand how I felt at the moment. I didn’t know if I felt guilty, I didn’t know if I felt happy, I just didn’t know.

“Are you okay? Not sea sick are you?” He asked me concerned.

            I shook my head.

“No I’m okay. I’m just a little cold.” I replied.

He must’ve taken that as an okay to hold me closer to him, as he tried to warm me. His arms pulled me closer. I snuggled into him, not exactly knowing what I was doing. I wasn’t really thinking straight at the moment and I was too cold to not want his warmth.

We stayed like that, huddled together. Neither one of us spoke, not knowing what to say. Finally the boat slowed down and came to a stop. I heard other voices and saw other men as they managed to get the boat tied down. I awkwardly managed to pull away from Anson and take in my surroundings.

I stood up slowly, making sure I had my footing right as the boat rocked back and forth with the motion of the waves. I looked up and saw only a few men holding lanterns. The moon not quite bright enough to see no more than five feet away from me, but I knew we were anchored to an island or some sort of land mass.  The men then attached a small walk bridge to the boat.

“We’re here!” Anson chirped happily as he stood up taking my hand in his.

He helped me up the small steps and onto the small walk bridge. The man on the other side gently took my hand and led me across. Anson followed behind. Once my feet hit pavement the man released my hand and stood back. Anson came up to me then.

“Where is here exactly?” I asked him, raising an eyebrow. I saw him smile.

“You’ll see. I’m sure you’ve been here before.” He said as he grabbed my hand and led the way to wherever we were going.

I tried to look again at my surroundings, but  my eyes had failed me. I gave up trying to guess where we are and continued to let Anson lead me. We came to a stop after a while.

“Anson, my boy!” A deep voice said cheerfully.

A man emerged with rimmed glasses, dark hair, and a beard. He wore what seemed to be a white button up shirt a black coat and dark pants. He had a huge smile on his face.

“Dr. Hershel!” Anson said just as cheerfully and released my hand to give him a man hug.

“I see that this lady is what’s got you pulling my strings?” He asked Anson with a raised eyebrow and knowing tone.

Anson just smiled and happily chuckled. He looked at me and quickly looked away as if he didn’t want me to look him in the eye.
