Ch.30 Free (Jace's POV)

   I couldn't sleep that night. I looked over at my clock just as it ticked to 11:50. The heavenly fire was racing through my veins. I can feel it burning in my heart. I needed to be free. There was a way, but I didn't know how. Then I remembered what tomorrow was. I shook Clary awake. "Come with me!" I whispered. She stared at me groggily but finally stood up to walk with me. I led her through the maze of tunnels. I pushed open the doors and we were greeted by the sweet smell of lush green and sweet magical flowers all around us. "Jace what are we doing here?" She said yawning. "Well I saw you tossing and turning. We both can't sleep. So I thought why not clear our minds up here! And I'd hate to do it alone knowing that this is your favorite place." She smiled. I got up and picked an apple from a nearby tree, then sliced it into eighths. I handed some to her. Soon somewhere far off in the night, a bell rang signaling midnight. We smiled at each other and watched the midnight flowers beside us bloom one by one showing their beautiful golden and luminescent petals. "Let's go to bed." I say pulling her up. "But first.." I spun her around so that she was facing me. "Happy birthday Clary!" She grinned and leaned upwards to kiss me as I leaned down. The sweet smell of apples still wavered in her mouth. Then something wonderful happened. Suddenly I was burning inside. My runes glowed a beautiful golden light. Then the fire rose out of me swirling around us. We were encircled inside a magnificent Flame. The fire of heaven has escaped. "Clary." I said looking into her eyes. "You freed me."
