Leaving Hogwarts?!

Having packed my belongings, I followed Dumbledory, wordlessly, through the maze that was Hogwarts with my eyes trained intently on his back as if I would find all the answers there. Leave Hogwarts?! He had to be joking, right? I would refuse to leave! Then again, if he would prefer I left, I couldn’t deny him that, could I? After all this was Alby’s school and he had already extended every possible form of hospitality by allowing me to stay this long as well as taking care and treating me.

Thoughtfully, I contemplate how I could somehow ask Dumbledory to not remove me from Hogwarts. It surprised me now how attached I’d become to this school in such a short period of time… admitting it to myself, this was the only place I’d ever felt safe.

With my hood drawn up, hiding my face, the few students wandering around merely stared into the side of my hood as I walked beside Madam Pomfrey. Passing through the corridors, down two flights of stairs, I recognized the ground floor as we moved along it before being lost in another set of corridors and up more flights of stairs, when finally Alby stopped in front of a small old door and knocked.

The door opened without assistance and following Dumbledory in as he stepped into the room, I hesitated momentarily just inside the doorway. We had now entered a fairly medium sized classroom; it had a basic setup with odd ornaments and animals in cages scattered around the room, along with some portraits of moving people. Stood at the front of the room behind a large desk, with a composed expression, was Professor McGonagall.

The stern expression I’d come to recognize was on her face, watching as we entered the room, her eyes examining us as we came to stop in front of her. “Professor McGonagall” Greeted Dumbledory politely accompanied with a smile.

“Professor Dumbledore, Madam Pomfry,” She greeted in the same tone before her eyes settled on myself; I looked away around the room. “Good day Robyn, it’s good to see you back on your feet.” Spoke the Professor gently. Turning my eyes back towards her, I was surprised by the contrast of sincerity in her words and the sternness in her air and expression.

Despite my confusion at not currently leaving Hogwarts, I welcomed this detour and smilingly replied, “Good morning Professor. Thank you, it feels better to be back on my feet.”

“Robyn, due to recent events, we feel that it would be better if you reside elsewhere in the grounds, Professor McGonagall has agreed to let you stay with her.” Spoke Dumbledory kindly. My lips parted letting my silent gasp of surprise escape; I hoped my eyes nearly popping out of their sockets, wasn’t as obviously I thought it was.

“Er, no, not at all!” I murmur quietly, gaining marginal composure as I drop my gaze to the floor frowning. So…I’m not leaving Hogwarts? I wondered, before voicing the thought and briefly meeting  Dumbledory’s gaze.

“You are determined to stay on school grounds and we are comfortable having you stay here.” Spoke Alby, giving me a knowing look, making me think he somehow knew about my earlier thoughts. After checking my mind barriers, I looked towards the patiently waiting Professor McGonagall in front of me.

“Are you sure this won’t be a problem Professor? I really don’t want to be a burden,” I manage tentatively. As much as I didn’t want to leave Hogwarts, I owed the teachers here everything and  would leave this safe haven should they wish me to. “If you would rather I leave, I won’t be any trouble; you’ve all done so much for me, it would be a little price to pay in return for your kindness” I said lowly, trying to hide the emotion in my voice.

“You are welcome to stay here as long as you like, some notice if you did chose to leave…unexpectedly,” Receiving another knowing look from Alby, he continued, “would be appreciated.” I merely smiled, nodding; really wanting to break into a celebratory dance. Oh thank holy heavens I don’t have to leave! Hallelujah!

“Robyn if you have any pain or health problems do not hesitate to speak to Professor McGonagall, who will contact me directly. Do you understand?” The stern tone of Madam Pomfrey caught me off guard as I nodded willingly. “Good. If you’ll all excuse me I shall return to my patients.” She curtly nodded before swiftly turning on her heels and leaving.

“I too must take leave. Robyn, I shall make weekend visits to check on your progress.” He smiled, his eyes twinkling. Progress? What progress? I pondered while smiling back gratefully. Hell, forget progress! I DON’T HAVE TO LEAVE HOGWARTS! THAT’S WHAT I CALL PROGRESS!

“Follow me, please Robyn.” The Professor proceeded to head through a door to the left of the big desk, which opened into a small corridor. The room the corridor revealed was small but adequate; there was a window on the far wall, a bed against the east wall and a curtain rail running around it. Also a sofa centred in the middle of the room, a fireplace situated grandly in the corner, while a desk remained placed under the window.

Against the west wall was another door and as I glanced round the room a few moving painting caught my eye as well tapestries. “That bed over there is yours,” said the professor pointing to the only visible bed in the room, “my room is through that door there,” pointing to the door on the west wall, “and the bathroom is through this door here.” She said pulling back the door we’d come through to reveal a door hidden behind it in the left hand corner. “My room I would like you to stay out of but apart from that you are more than welcome to the use of the rest of this room. Behind the tapestries you will find built in shelves of books which you have the free use of, any problems or questions?” she asked looking curiously though the sternness of her expression did nothing for her intention.

“I don’t think so, but thank you.” I answer, my eyes still wandering around the room.

“Aside from the other things we need to discuss about this arrangement, there is one thing I would like to talk about first,” spoke the Professor intently. I knew my expression portrayed my weariness but I nodded for her to continue in spite of my guardedness. “Professor Dumbledore has asked me to teach you everything you should have learnt, had you attended Wizarding School as you ought to have done. Do you have any problem with this?”

I’M GOING TO BE TAUGHT MAGIC LIKE NORMAL WIZARDING CHILDREN ATTENDING WIZARDING SCHOOL HAVE DONE?! Hell no I don’t have a problem with that! “Not at all Professor, in fact I’d love to be taught magic.” I grin eagerly, my reaction taking the Professor by surprise as she warmly smiles back at me.

Besides I don’t think I can do that much damage…right?
