"You called me over?" Lucas walked towards the booth that Maya sat in at the Nighthawk Diner near The Grove.

"Yeah, I wanted to talk." she said in a serious tone, not looking up to him.

"About?" he asked as he sat down across her.

"Us."

He was confused at first, his eyebrows were furrowed as he stared at his girlfriend.

"What's wrong?" he asked slowly, his fingers playing with the napkins on the table.

"It's not there, anymore. Don't you agree?" she said quietly, playing with the green peas on her almost empty plate. A tear started to fall on her cheek, but she didn't wipe it away.

"I guess. I mean, I haven't had that feeling in forever," his gaze turned towarss the ceiling.

"Same, same." she had to agree. It broke her heart, yeah, but the spark just wasn't there anymore. And she didn't want to force some connection they had into a girlfriend-boyfriend thing.

"It was just that night at the campfire, y'know? Me grabbing you by the face while you called me nicknames," Lucas pointed out as he laughed, recalling all their epic memories together.

"Yeah, that night at the campfire. And the kiss?" she questioned, hoping that he'd give her some input on how he felt about it.

"It was intense, yeah." he gave his signature Friar smirk, a family thing.

"So, the kiss was just, intense?" she wanted more, he knew, and it was cute for him.

"And fun." he rolled his eyes playfully, as they continued talking about the times they had as a couple.

"The times, they are a changin'"
Bob Dylan

"Yeah, I just don't know if you and me really click... That way," she stated.

"Yeah... But maybe one day if you get a little more normal," he suggested.

"Or you get a little more abnormal," she returned.

"So, do we just, break up?" she asked again after the laughter died down.

"Feels like it." he nodded slowly, pursing his lips and cracking his knuckles. "But it was mutual, right?"

"Yeah." she sparked up, smiling and nodded as a smart and sweet girl would. " But I'm still gonna tell people I dumped your butt and broke your nerdy little heart."

"Fair enough." Classic lil' Maya Penelope Clutterbucket-Hart.

"Oh well."

As she opened the door, he stopped her.

"I love you."

She pursed her lips, a small smile sneaking up on her strawberry-glossed lips. She took a breath, turning around to face him. She gained the confidence, looked him in the eye, chuckling, she said, "I love you too."

They shared one last kiss, before breaking apart.

As they were about to leave, Lucas checked the time on his phone and smiled.

"It's only 10.30,"  a cheeky smile playing on his lips.

"Wanna break up at midnight?" she suggested.

"That works." and they ran out of the diner, heading down to Santa Monica Pier for night out on the town. Who knows what they did at the crappy motel. Just kidding. It's shittier.
