It was a rainy friday night in Manhattan, New York. Diamond had gotten off of work late and she wanted to treat herself to a drink or two. She usually never did this but she felt good and she deserved it . Diamond pulled up a seat at the bar and ordered her favorite, a Long Island Iced Tea. Tonight was couples night at Lingo, and she wasn't feeling the vibe. She looked around and sipped on her drink. Love was everywhere. She shook her head at the thought.
"Diamond, work is your love." She said to herself and took another sip of her drink.
Her phone started vibrating, but she ignored it. When it wouldn't stop, she reached in her Chanel chain bag with a deep sigh and without checking who it was she answered.
"Diamond Smith." She said into her iphone and took another sip.
"Diamond girl! What are you doing on this beautiful night in New York?" The familiar voice said.
"Vanessa, it's raining outside and I'm treating myself to a drink at Lingo. Whats up?" Diamond asked.
Vanessa was one of Diamonds best friends. She was caramel complexion, about 5'8, dark brown eyes and medium legnth hair. She was mixed with Domincan and Black. She was smart, but she was the party girl of the group. She graduated from Fordham with Diamon three years ago and she was making a living by working at Saks 5th Ave for the past four years.
"Girl, you should be out partying tonight! Pre-Pre game for your birthday coming up in a few days."
"Vanessa, I just got off of work. It's 11:24pm and the only thing I want to do right now is get in my bed and knock out. I'm about to head home actually. I'll call you tomorrow."
"Alright girl...Hey! How about we grab lunch or something tomorrow, like around 2:30?" Vanessa asked her.
"Sounds like a plan."
Diamond hung up her phone, paid the bartender and grabbed her coat. It was pouring harder than it was when she got inside. She opened her umbrella and flagged down a taxi.
"Where to?" The driver asked as she opened the door.
"Greenwhich Village"
As the driver was about to pull away, he saw a man who looked like he was struggling trying to flag him down. He was soaked. His black pea coat was damp and so was his hair and face. He was holding a soggy news paper and a breif case. The taxi driver looked at Diamond for her approval to let him in. Diamond nodded in agreement and the driver pulled over to let him in.
"Thank you so much sir! I'm soaked!" He said as he got into the backseat of the cab with Dimaond.
Diamond chucked to herself. "Clearly!" she thought to herself.
"Hello." He said turning his attention towards Diamond. "Thank you for sharing your cab with me." He smiled at her and winked. She felt like she was dreaming. It didn't occur to her that he was talking to her.
