I heard footsteps, or what sounded like footsteps. A gun barrel appeared in front of me.
"They have to be around here somewhere" a gruff voice whispers that I instantly recognise as Uncles.
My breath caught in my throat, the barrel turned around facing the entrance to my burrow. I waited praying he wouldn't find me. I heard him leave walking about a good thirty yards. I let out a quiet sigh. A snout was stuck into my burrow. Just before I could scream a paw covered my mouth.
"Come with me" she whispered.
"Foxx is that you?"
"Yeah, now come on, Wilbur's gonna be back any minute."
I wriggled my body out of the hole, it was already night. I crept along the banks with her, we followed the river until she lead me to a small waterfall I never knew was there. She disappeared behind it.
"Quickly!" She whispered.
I ducked through and found myself standing inside a tunnel. Lit by small table candles. We ran down it stopping short of a wooden door. She phased into her quiet self. And Opened the door.
"Stay here" she squeaked.
Everyone was there, Alex, The twins, Bandit and...Chase. They looked up as Foxx entered,
"Hey everyone, I have news" she announced.
She turned to me and beckoned. I stepped through and everyone looked at me like I had Four heads. Chase was the first to respond
"Sam!"
He ran up to me, planting a kiss on my lips.
"I was so scared for you!" He said, his voice muffled by my hair,
he checked me over. My shot wound was first.
"The school nurse stitched it up" I choked.
He ran his fingers around my black eyes. He took a knife out of his pocket and cut the leg of my pants off to check my broken limb.
"Bandit could fix it" Alex remarked,
Chase stiffened.
"Whats that on her wrist?" Jake asked.
I immediately hid my arm. Chase checked my right hand, the welts were still purple,
"You could've told me I was allergic to silver" I mumbled.
"What about her arm?" Chase asked ignoring me.
"Her other one!"
Chase took my other arm and tried to pry it out. I wouldn't budge.
"Sam" he draws.
I sighed and held my arm out. Chase read the bracelet aloud.
"Samantha Burkewood Parole no. 23894. Your on parole?!"
I gulped.
"Shes a criminal!" Josh hissed.
Tears began clouding my eyes.
"You know what Josh? Today I was Forced to go to school, covered in my own blood, a shot wound on my head, split lips, handcuffed, black eyes, a parole bracelet and two police officers by my side in 3rd period. And Do you know what? Everyone is calling me a criminal!"
I turned on my heel and walked out the door. I sat on the rocks letting the water wash away the blood, in the end I was so badly stained I jumped into the pool below it fully clothed and scrubbed my arms and face. As the pool slowly turned pink, I thought about what had happened today, everyone staring at me because They thought I was something I'm not. I cried and cried. The welts burning as a reminder of what I had done, I rubbed them. Popping the blisters and making it worse. I felt so numb I didn't feel Chases arms slipping around my waist. I cried into his shoulder. He pulled me out of the water and sat us on some rocks to the left of the waterfall. He leaned forward and pressed his lips to the tears cascading down my cheeks. For the first time I saw he had bags under his eyes and stubble on his chin.
