Two golden eyes appeared at the edge of the woods. I anxiously grabbed Chases hand and walked faster. The eyes got closer. I was practically running. Just as I was about to enter the safe haven of my living room, Chase pulls me up short.

"Whats the matter with you?"

The eyes were right behind him, I gulped nervously. I watched as they lowered down and narrowed. I realised just in time that it was going to attack. I scream and pull us both inside before slamming the door shut, causing us to fall. As Chase landed next to me with a disgruntled 'oomph' my Uncle raced down the stairs, saw us and groaned. Chase was doubled over on the floor gripping his stomach

"Nice to see you again Chase" he grunted "dinners ready"

I got up and pulled Chase to his feet.

"You alright?" I breathed,

He nods

"Yeah."

Hot soup greeted us at the kitchen table. We sipped in silence. Chase glancing over at me every couple of minutes, I finally had enough and wiped my mouth on a napkin.

"I'm finished" I mumble and retreat to my bedroom where I kicked my desk in frustration. Why am I so nervous over a pair of yellow eyes? I look out my window and saw them staring up at me. Self consciously, I lock my window and draw the curtains. I jumped out of my skin at a knock. Before I could answer, Chase had me pinned up against the wall. Holding onto my wrists above my head.

"Whats the matter Samantha, tell me the truth. You've never had one hunting accident before in your life" he growls.

I swallow and try hard not to scream over the fact I'm being restrained.

"I can't tell you" was all I could get out.

His hazel eyes bore into mine.

"Bullshit you can't, we're best friends. We tell each other everything"

He squeezes my wrists tighter. I shake my head. He shifts until he's pressed up against me, chest to chest.

"Tell me please Samantha" he whispers, "This could be serious"

I stay quiet.

"Fine"

hesitantly he lets me go.

"But you have to promise me you wont go skits okay?" He nods slowly

"Promise" I suck in a breath of air and sit down.

"The beast attacked me"

the colour drained from Chases Face.

"What?" He asked calmly, too calmly.

"SHIT SAMANTHA! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME EARLIER!?" he roars. I shrink back into the wall.

"I didn't mean for it to happen, I swear!" I squeak.

He rubs his face and stares at me.

"How Sam? How? What happened?" I gulp too afraid to answer his question.

"Forget about it" he shakes his head and walks toward the door,

"Chase stop!" I call,

he doesn't listen, just keeps on walking.

"If you go out there you'll die!" He pauses in the doorway,

"What?"

"It's out there, thats why I was so anxious to get inside, it was right behind you. About to attack you"

I hung my head. He stares shocked. I look back up at him, my eyes watering.

"Please don't go out there, I've already lost too many people, I don't want to loose you too, your my only friend I have left"

Chase's eyes soften.

"Okay I won't go, I just need time to think about everything."

He walks out.
