Part 1 ♥

***Life is

the only chance you get,

how you live it,

what you take from it,

how much you give back,

a joy and a heartbreak,

doing the best with what you have,

loving with all of your heart,

treating all forms of it with respect,

and a wondrous beautiful mystery.***

Elena's P.O.V

I opened my eyes and realised that I was lying on the floor in the classroom. My teacher and my classmates stood around me and they had worried looks on their faces. As soon as my best friend Becca noticed that I was conscious again she sat down beside me and grabbed my hand. "Hey hun, everything's okay! The ambulance will be here soon!" She said that with a quiet voice and tried to calm me down that way.

I looked at her and was confused. Why was I lying on the floor? All I knew was that I had a massive headache again. "What happened?" I asked her with a weak and shaky voice.

"Suddenly you lost your balance and then you fell."

My teacher bent and took my other hand. "Gosh, Elena. Thank god, you're conscious again. The ambulance might arrive in the next few minutes. Your parents are informed."

She helped me to get up from the ground and seated me on a chair. Then the ambulance arrived.

It all happened quite fast. They brought me to the hospital. My mum and my dad were already waiting there. As soon as my mum saw me she run to me and pulled me in her arms.

"Oh my darling, are you okay? Your teacher called us and we came as fast as possible."

"Mum, I'm okay. Don't worry!" I tried to downplay it.

My dad gave me a worried look. "Elena, I told you that we should have gone to a doctor because of your headaches, that caused you so much pain. "

"Dad, I told you there's nothing wrong!" I tried to hide it but this wasn't the truth. I had really bad headaches for more than a month, but I didn't take it too serious. But this morning it was worse than ever and when I was at school I couldn't stand the pain anymore so I passed out.

Then the doctors told me to get in a treatment room. For two hours they performed several medical tests and then they sent me back to my parents to the family waiting room. After another twenty minutes a doctor told us to come with him.

We went into his office and he told us to take a seat. We all did and then looked at him. I wasn't really interested at that time; I thought these headaches were normal.

He looked at us and then he took a deep breath. "What I'm going to tell you might change everything. I'm really sorry about this but we have strong suspicion that Elena has a brain tumour."

My mum put her hands on her face and whispered: "Cancer? You want to tell me my daughter has cancer?! Are you serious?" She sobbed.

The doctor had a sad face when he sad. "I know how hard it is, but we're going to try everything now to help Elena."

My mum had tears all over her cheeks and my dad shook his head again and again but I was just sitting there staring at the ground. I couldn't believe what the doctor had just told me. Tears flooded my eyes but I didn't say a word.

My mum stood up from her chair and came to me to hug me tight. I still didn't move when all the tears in my eyes rolled down my cheeks. My dad looked at the doctor.

"Please..." He sobbed. "...please... tell me that this is a mistake. THIS CAN'T BE REAL!" He shouted the last bit.

The doctor stayed calm and came to me now. My mum stopped hugging me and the doctor sat down beside me. "Elena, this isn't the end. We can help you!"

I shook my head in disbelief and didn't say a single word. "You can go home now. Come back tomorrow and we'll do some more tests."

We went out of his office and all the other people in the hospital were staring at us. My mum and I had tears on our cheeks and my dad's hands were totally shaking. I looked at the people and cried even more. They didn't look like they just got told that they have cancer. They didn't have to deal with my situation.

We went outside and got into the car. My dad's hands we're still shaking when he started the motor of the car. We drove home without talking. When we arrived there I went into my room and lay down on my bed. I wiped away the tears but there were new ones flooding my eyes immediately.

I grabbed my phone and saw that I had six missed calls, four from Becca and two from an unknown number. I didn't care what they wanted from me... everything was so unimportant now. I throw my phone against the wall with all the power I had left. It shattered into pieces.

I slowly stood up and went into the bathroom. I looked into the mirror. I saw a girl with long brown curls. Her bluish green eyes were red from crying and she looked weary. All my mascara was on my cheeks and I looked like a zombie. I stared at myself for 5 minutes until tears welled up in my eyes again. I averted my eyes from the mirror and went downstairs. When I was about to enter the living room I heard my mum sobbing: "Not my baby. Please... tell me that this isn't real. Pleaseeee." She cried and I knew my dad was sitting next to her with his arms around her. He whispered. "We're going to get through that as a family."

I turned around and went upstairs again. I couldn't deal with the whole situation. I lay down on my bed again and stared at the ceiling.

...

My dad sat beside me on my bed. I must have fallen asleep because it was two hours later. My dad pulled me into his arms without saying a word. After a while he whispered in my ear. "You're not alone, darling. We are all here with you and we'll never let you go through this alone."

I sobbed and nodded.

"If there's something you need just tell me or your mum. We'll do anything." His voice was shaking.

I nodded again and then he stood up and left the room. Afterwards I went into the bathroom again and took make-up off, brushed my teeth and put on my PJs.

I stumbled back into my room and tried to go back to sleep.
