in hiding

I sat there in the corner of the room, staring out a tiny window, the only window. I looked back to what lay in my laps. It looked over a hundred years old, like it could be destroyed by even the tiniest touch, yet it was firm to the touch. As I gazed on I hadn't realised the passing time.

'Put that thing away.'
I looked up to Essy.
'It hasn't been anything but trouble since we got it. We can't even figure out what it means.'

I looked back down at the scroll we stole from Ajax. It was plain, that is, other than an inscription at the centre that read

"OLDE SMITH NEVER YEARN"

'If only we knew what that meant. ' I said, peering at the scroll like I would see something I didn't see before.

'Let it go Dan.' Its been a week now. It doesn't have the answers. What we need is to think of a way to get your mum and Phil's out of wherever they are. '

'Izzy is working on that. '

'Oh! Were calling her Izzy now??? Meg, her mentor turned on us. Who's to say "Izzy" won't do the same?'

'She is not like Meg. And she has the most experience in all this so she is our best shot. '

'It's pointless talking you out of this. '

'Why don't you trust her? '

'Why do you?' Essy screamed. 'If you're going to be reckless about your safety, fine, but having her around puts us all at risk. '

'I know. But Izzy won't turn on us. '

'Yeah. She would have said the same about Meg.' Essy spat as she turned to leave.
I looked outside again to find Izzy looking back at me. She signaled me to meet her outside.
The cottage was a small construct. Not so surprised since its in the middle of the forest. A side of it was a large boulder that kept it cool, then the rest was normal, like a normal house, except it had only one window. I made my way through and froze for a second when I saw my mum and Mrs Kelly lying helplessly in bed. Sigh. I opened the door and headed for a very forlorn Izzy.

'How much of that did you hear?'
I asked feeling sorry for her.

'Enough', she answered. 'She makes a point though. I would have said the same about Meg. I just can't believe...' I took her in in a bear hug as she sobbed. If anything, at least I could offer some comfort. She just lost everything she had. That can't be easy.

'Thank you', she said between sobs.

'Don't mention it.'

'I like it. I mean the name. I like it.' She managed a smile. 'Izzy.'

I smiled back.
' I assume you didn't call me out here to congratulate my nicknaming skills', I joked.

'Oh. Yes. About that. I need your and Phil's consent on something. Is he in? '

'Yeah sure.
PHIL!!!!', I screamed, feeling too lazy to go back in. He walked out the door a few seconds later, obviously just waking from sleep.

'Dude, with the way you sleep, your house could get robbed and you'd have no idea.' Izzy giggled.

'Nah man. I was just learning about dreaming in my dream.'

'Hope you know what you're doing. Don't compromise our location. A week long peace is much appreciated. '

'Don't you find that weird?', he asked.

'Weird how?' Izzy asked before I could even process what he meant.

'In less than four days, you are abducted twice, Essy is abducted, we are all abducted, beaten to pulp, God knows what they did to our parents, and suddenly, they leave us alone? Totally not how the movies go if they have much to say about this. '

'Don't fry tomorrows bacon today. Izzy, whatcha got? '

'Well. I haven't been able to revive them, but I found a way to cloak them. '

'And that helps us how exactly?' Phil looked both puzzled and upset.

'The cabin is safe so if we cloak them, no one will find them. We don't have to take them everywhere we go. '

To be honest, knowing our parent couldn't defend themselves if we were attacked gave me serious chills.

'Okay. So do it.' I said. Phil nodded in agreement. Apparently he felt the same way. The look on Isabel's face was even more terrifying.

'This is the time I'm meant to be super proud of my invention, but I don't know...'

'Wait. You invented this? ' exclaimed really excited now.

'I'm calling it dream cloaking.' She smiled sheepishly. I wanted to tell her how pretty she looked, but that was so not the point at the moment.
'Its not safe.' She warned. 'I don't know of you're for it. I make no guarantees.'

'Let's give it a shot.'

We all went inside. Phil and Izzy went ahead to the beds while I went to call Essy out.

'Izzy may have a way to keep our mothers safe. '
Essy gave me the look.
'I know you don't trust her. But if we can trust her with our parents, give her a chance.

'Fine. '
We walked out into the room that had my mum and Mrs Kelly. Izzy was crouched between their beds. She took a meditative pose meaning she was ready for business.

'Alright. Here goes. '
She shut her eyes and held them. Nothing happened. Then they suddenly started jerking. I panicked.

'Stop. Stop it. You're hurting them', but Izzy didn't stop. Essy jumped at Izzy to push her away from them, but fell right through her.
'Crap. Did you see that? '

'Izzy!!!!' Phil screamed. Our parents were beginning to fade away. Limb by limb, one part after the other till they were gone. Then Izzy gasped. Phil was first to respond as he grabbed her by the neck and pinned her to the wall.
'What did you do??'

'Alright, let's all take a deep breath.' I said. Phil released Izzy as she explained.

'I took them to a safe house in the dream verse. They can't be located here. '

'How can we be sure?' Phil spat. She brought out a weird looking g key and handed it to me.

'That's the key to the cottage on the other side. If I had them trapped, I wouldn't give you the keys. '

'Alright. Once we are safe and we have a way to get them out of whatever they're into, we being them back. Agreed?', I looked to phil for consent.

'Agreed.'

'Now that that's settled, what next?' Essy asked.

'Now?....

Now its time for revenge. '
