(Kira's version)
"Kira, what if she dies?" Annie moaned, her eyes accusing. I snarled back at her, remembering clearly that she was the one to give the final blow. "It'll be our fault! What if someone finds out? Will we go to jail?"
"I don't wanna go to jail!!!" Melissa wailed, curling around the pillow she was holding.
"Calm down!" I told them getting of my mattress, standing to face the girls. We were having a sleepover at my house-one I called to discuss recent developments. A little bit of nerve danced around in my belly. I should have made strategies. I should have made a less messy scene. Hopefully, April did die. There would be no witnesses. I sighed angrily. I really messed up this time.
"You still have her diary?" Carly slipped the book out of my school bag curiously, flipping through the pages before deciding it was boring. I forgot about the diary.
"Kira, we're in huge trouble," Annie hissed. "If April lives, she'll rat on us..." She should die, I thought. "and if she dies...they might call forensics!! Everything will be traced to us." I forgot that Annie's dad was some sort of police. A detective or whatever. I glanced at the diary on my table and smiled. April's diary. After all that trouble of snatching it from her, it should come to good use. She wouldn't know what hit her.
(Amanda's version)
I'm going to kill Dave for being late , I thought grumpily hurrying through the park to get to the hospital on the other side of town. It would take more time to follow the road around the park and more money to pay for the cab to the hospital. The park was filled with the squeals of children, the sound of barking dogs and chattering. Even with the noise, the park seemed peaceful-serene almost.
"Nice flowers, who are they for?" I almost tripped over my feet at the voice. I never usually see Kira or any of her friends outside of school. It bugged me that they looked like normal teenagers, in denim skirts and tight fitting tops. Innocent looking, angelic even. Yet they were far from normal. And angelic should never be even considered in their case.
"What do you want?" I asked. I didn't know the little blond one but I recognized Carly and I think the other one was Melissa. Melissa was the bubble headed one who trailed after Kira like a little pet dog. Every time I see them together, I think about Paris and her Chihuahua. Except she couldn't fit into a little bag and was treated with less love than the Chihuahua. Carly was far from bubbly. She was the depressed one. She tries so hard to be cooler but was pitied by everyone. I don't really know why Kira associated with her. The smaller blond was familiar but I didn't know her name. She looked perceptive, as she watched me, and strangely I somehow knew she was the only one with a hint a the brain. Kira was of course top notch with her beauty and her confident posture and position gave away her role as leader. Her eyes, I cringed, were holding a sort of lunacy in them. Maybe her lips were turned up in a smile but her eyes were sneering at me.
"Are those flowers for April?," she asked again. The undertone warned me of impatience. I shifted uneasily, glaring at them and inwardly scowling at Dave's absence. Kira took that as a yes. "Oh, I'm glad she's ali...um..okay."
"And you care?" I scoffed. Kira smiled more sweetly.
"Whats important to Brandon is important to me..."
Pfftt, sure.
"You should get over your obsession with him, it's not healthy," I smugly strolled past them, ignoring Kira's animal growl. Crazy I heard footsteps quicken behind me and I turned in case Kira was going to attack or something. It was not Kira but the little blond. Kira was already walking away with the other too, her posture rigid in obvious anger.
"Let me come with you," the blond muttered. "We've all treated April badly and...now this happens..." I looked at the girl suspiciously but she seemed genuine. Almost. Her eyes were calculative. Don't judge her "If she had died...we would feel so guilty for making her last time on earth so..." She paused, lowering her eyes so I couldn't see that calculative look. She looked ashamed and guilty. I felt my heart being pulled to the girl and I was sure, April would forgive her too. I didn't let her finish what she was saying.
"Come on, let's go see April," I told her kindly. She still didn't look up but I was comforted to see a smile form on her mouth.
"My name's Annie by the way."
(April's version)
I opened my eyes wearily as if my eye lids weighed 10 tonnes. I was in a white room with a beeping sound coming from beside me. Something was stuck up my nostrils. I tried to move my fingers and sighed when I could feel my whole hand. I could feel my whole body. It wasn't numb, I grimaced, it was pain! I felt around the bed and froze when my fingers touched someone's hair. Soft, slick, beautiful hair. There was someone beside me obviously asleep. I glanced sideways to see a guy sitting in a chair, his head resting on the bed. He stirred and looked up at me. I sucked in a breath as I met his astonishing blue eyes. Drop-dead, shoot-me-now-or-marry-me blue eyes. The guy was hot, no doubt there. I turned beet red when I realized I was staring.
"You're awake!" The guy grinned. He knew me? "Doctor! She's awake! Someone find a doctor" I looked around in confusion. Doctor? I was in a hospital?? Well of course I was!! The guy glanced at me with so much feeling in his eyes I had a crazy urge to cry. "Don't worry April, your mom just left to get your brother. She was here a while ago, she needed a little convincing to leave you alone with me. I'll go call her now on the pay phone." He smiled brushing stray hair outta my eyes.
"Hold on, who's April?'" I asked. Maybe it was me? He kept calling me that anyway. "My mom...brother," I whispered trying to conjure up an image. Blank. I looked at the boy, his face anxiously confused. "and...Who are you?" The guy gaped at me in shock at first but sobered a little.
"We have a problem," He said to no one in particular.
