(April's version)
As soon as the pop beat intro reached my ears, I rushed up the stairs into my room to turn up the volume. Another Saturday morning had arrived and I was all dressed up for a day in town with my friends. They were running late because Dave forgot his keys in the car. He really did lock them in the car this time. I could faintly hear mom yelling something from downstairs. She was probably complaining about the volume.
"It's my favourite song, mom!" I yelled back jumping around the room ridiculously. The lyrics began which stimulated some moves. This time there were no gymnastics moves or cheer leading or shy swaying. Nope! I danced! It was a Saturday! I was happy! I have a family who loved me! I had Brandon! I had a bruise-free body! I was fearless!! Mom put out a restraining order against Kira. Poor Kira and her goons, doing community service. They were sent to a juvenile center except for Annie, whose dad was able to pull some strings. She was on house arrest instead.
I'm a freee man! A free man! Ain't never again, never again. I will never again leave my land! I sang along with the lyrics doing a failed booty shake. Laughing at the poor attempt, I shimmied to the beat of the chorus towards the mirror before breaking into the sprinkler move I saw in a movie once.
I stopped dead in my tracks when I caught sight of the door. Mom, Dave, Am, Mariah..andBrandon stood there with funny expressions on their faces.
Shoot me
Mom was the first to recover and she crossed the room to turn down the radio,
"I was trying to tell you your friends were here."
"Couldn't you just have called me down?" Did I just squeak?
"Kenny told us to come up," Mom answered. He's so dead
"Thank heavens we did," Dave answered grinning. "Who knew the girl could move?"
"Am, next time bring a leash," Brandon drawled. "Dave's drooling all over my girl." Another squeak He came over for an embrace while the rest all mumbled to themselves.
"Why do you say those kind of things?" I whispered as he held me.
"I love seeing you blush," he whispered back.
"I just got a text from Michelle!" Mariah announced. "There's a carnival that's opening today at the park!"
"Here?" Brandon asked. "In Graham?"
"Yea, she went by and noticed...why is she always up so early?"
"Morning jog," Brandon replied, pulling me along with him. "Let's go to the movies first."
"No chick flicks!" Mariah called out from behind while we raced down the stairs. "I already feel like a third wheel."
"It won't matter what we watch..Am and I won't be paying attention anyway."
"DAVE!"
"Thats gross!"
"Let's go to the carnival first!" Mariah begged. "I could pick up a date from there to go movies with you guys."
"Whore."
"Say that again, Dave. I DARE YOU."
Silence
I smiled to myself as we skipped out onto the footpath. Life was good.
There will be a sequel
