Alina opened her eyes and waited for a minute, until her thoughts had cleared. She was still sleepy. She turned her head towards her bedside table. Her phone should have been ringing by now. She reached her hand out and searched for it. She found nothing and extended her research to her bed, under the covers, on the other bedside table, and eventually down the floor. She was halfway to the door -her hands feeling angrily the carpet for any trace of her missing cellphone- when she froze to the spot and after a minute stood up hurriedly and started running towards the living room.
She only managed to hit her head on the wall beside her door but she ignored the pain and rushed on.
"No God. please no no no."
That's all that left her lips, while she was down on her feet searching like crazy on the floor. She had dropped her phone yesterday when Stella and Noah came and she had stupidly forgot to pick it up. And now there she was. Pure terror filling her heart and escaping her mouth.
"Shit! This just had to happen to me! Jesus just let me find you, you stupid phone!" She said trying to restraint her anger and despair.
Finally she touched something that very much felt like a phone on a floor and picked it up pressing the unlock button.
The voice came as soon as the screen lightened.-Its 10:15-
"You have GOT to be KIDDING me!" She screamed and stood up, heading to her room when her phone vibrated on her hand. She picked it up before it had time to ring.
"Hello?" She said.
"Alina, it's Mrs Jenkins."
"Oh my God! Mrs Jenkins I'm so sorry! I had this thing yesterday and I forgot to-"
"Alina. Its okay honey. I wasn't calling to lecture you." Mrs Jenkins said with an amused tone. Alina stopped for a minute to process the facts.
"You're not mad?" She asked hesitantly. Mrs Jenkins laughed.
"No, I'm not mad." She said still laughing. "I called several times but you didn't pick up. I wanted to let you know that the shop is closed for today." Alina raised her eyebrows in confusion.
"Did something happen?" She asked concern filling her voice.
"No, no. Nothing happened. I just had an appointment with the doctor that couldn't be rescheduled. It's a annual check up, nothing to worry about." She said. Alina let out a relieved sigh. At least she wasn't late.
"Oh. That's okay then . Thank you for calling Mrs Jenkins."
"No problem little one. So you'll start your leave a little early." Alina smiled. Mrs Jenkins had planed to go on vacation for a month in February. She was gonna visit her daughter and grandchildren. So Alina had a leave of one month.
"Yes." She said. "Thank you again Mrs Jenkins. Have a safe trip."
"I will. Goodbye Alina." Mrs Jenkins hung up the phone and Alina let out a deep breath. She turned around to go to the kitchen.
"So is this how you wake up every morning?"
Alina screamed and turned to face Noah. He was leaning lazily on the door frame, his hands crossed against his chest.
"Could you please warn me before entering a room?" The girl said trying to calm her beating heart. She heard him laugh.
"Like you warned me about being blind?" He said.
"As you can recall," she said with an annoyed voice. "that wasn't exactly my fault."
Noah just shrugged.
