It was a beautiful day. Alina knew it. She could feel the sun on her skin. Warm and welcoming. She loved the afternoon sun. She had always thought it was more friendly than the morning sun, much more pleasant and cozy.
She had just gotten off from work and she and Debra had walked to the park. It was already March. The cold had began to fade away and the days were getting warmer and warmer. Spring was coming.
From the bench where she was sitting Alina could hear all sort of noises. Children laughing, girls chatting, people talking, shouting. She could hear their footsteps as they run or walked. She could even distinguish Debra's barking from somewhere in the distance. She had probably found someone to play with.
Alina took a deep breath through her nose and let it out slowly.
She loved days like this, where everything seemed to slow down a little. She took her phone out and touched the screen.
-8:30 pm-
She put her phone back in and whistled for Debra to come back. They walked back to the house and Alina wondered if Noah would be home. These past few days he had been really busy with the preparations for his exhibition. Alina kind of missed him.
She told herself that she should get used to being alone again. Noah wasn't going to be there forever.
She stepped in the house and unleashed Debra.
"I'm back." She said but there was no reply.
So he's not here.
She took her shoes off and walked to the kitchen. She took out a mug and made herself some tea before walking back to the living room and sitting on the couch.
The house was silent. Too silent. It bothered her and she wondered why. Before Noah had come this silence was her good friend but now she couldn't remember why she loved it so much.
Alina stood up and headed towards the radio. She pressed the button and instantly music filled the room.
She smiled and sat back down to finish her tea. When she drank the last of it she moved the mug to the kitchen and then came back to the living room. She rested her hands on her hips.
What now?
And for the next few hours Alina had tried to occupy herself with every means possible. She red a little, she sang, she cleaned up the rooms, she cooked some dinner and desert. She played with Debra she even started dancing around the room.
It was around 11:15 pm that she realised.
She was bored out of her mind. And for her this did no usually happen. She was never bored. That was her thing. She didn't do boredom. Stella and her parents would always tease her about this. Her lack of boredom. Stella said it was abnormal. People were biologically programmed to be bored at times. But Alina couldn't really relate. Until now.
She thought about it. Her day was really quite ordinary. Just like every other day. She felt there was a gap somewhere inside her. She wanted to do something badly, only problem was, she didn't know what.
If Noah was here she wouldn't be having this problem.
Alina sighed throwing herself, for what felt like the millionth time, on the couch.
Noah was super busy these past few days. And she had barely seen him. It was frustrating. Being alone was frustrating, having nothing to do was frustrating, missing Noah, wanting to talk to him and just be around him was frustrating.
Alina buried her face into the pillows and groaned.
Being in love was frustrating.
"Stupid." She mumbled annoyed. "Stupid. Stupid. Stupid."
