Chapter 6

The room is quiet apart from Jason's loud breathing. I flopped back against the bed and sighed loudly. I closed my eyes, trying to relax. I heard Jason shuffling around as he muttered to himself.

"Jason?"

"Yeah?" he replied. He still paced back and forth across the room. "Relax, Jay. The sooner we go on this quest the less actual danger we'll be in unless we just stand by like the freaking peanut gallery."

The shuffling stopped. "What?" Jason's reply came with a load of confusion. I sat up and looked at Jason who was wearing a confused puppy look. "What? You've never heard the expression 'the closer we are to danger, the farther we are from harm?"

Jason shook his head. "Uhh, no?" My eyes widen dramatically at him in disbelief. "Oh, come on. You're seriously telling me that you've never watched The Lord of the Rings before?"

"Umm, yes?" Jason looked unsure of what else to say. I flopped back onto the bed. I pulled my arms behind my head. "They're only the greatest movies of all time!" I said exasperatedly. I began to explain, in detail, what happens in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy.

After a little while of simply talking with Jason, a tall blonde woman entered the room and said formally. "My name is Chandra. The Blind King invites you to dime with him in the Great Hall."

Jason jumped up from his spot on his bed at the mention of food. He was practically drooling. You'd think we've been in the woods for weeks, starving like a pack of wolves. I hoped to God that we didn't look that way. I stood up calmly and replied. "We thank The Blind King for his hospitality, Chandra." The dining hall wouldn't be all that great if it looks like the rest of the castle.

'I sure hope the food is anything better that what we've been eating at the Learning Center place. Mushrooms are gross'

Chandra lead Jason and I out of the guestroom and down a long, swirling flight of stairs. The castle looked like an old run down tourist sight except there were a lot more cobwebs, dust and crumbling bricks. The three of us entered the 'Great Hall' and Chandra introduced us formally to everyone in the room. "Introducing Lord Jason and Lady Alexis!"

I still hate the title 'Lady' because last time I looked I was more of a nerdy tomboy than a prissy girly girl. I looked everyone in the eye, not that there was a ton of people here to look at in the first place. Jason looked towards the ground and seemed very interested in his sneakers. The Blind King sat at the head of a large old wooden table. I noticed a girl around my age sitting at the table to the Blind King's left. She has short straight red hair cut up to her chin in a fashionable style, fair skin and a load of freckles.

Jason and I walked forward across the room towards the table. Jason, not wanting to be singled out, took a seat next to the red-headed girl. I tried to even it out but since there are three of us I just decided to sit at the Blind King's right hand side.

The red-haired girl turned to Jason and smiled at him. Jason smiled awkwardly back which looked more like a grimace than a smile. The red-head then looked forward and smiled at me too. I return a small half smile.

"So you two are the newest 'guests' here." The girl smirked confidently at the two of us like we're the next unsuspecting people to pull her newest prank on. "I see they haven't changed your clothes yet?"

Jason looked confused. "So those aren't your clothes?" Jason asked. He scratched his head. The girl shook her head. "No." She looked down at her outfit. "These aren't exactly my style but my other ones make me look too much like a Beyonder."
