#9 :: The Contract Killer

"Thank you Courtney, honestly without this organisation I would have never turned my life around." A young girl named Naomi said to me.

"Honestly, it was all you. You made the change, you made it happen. I'm proud of you." I said to her.

I run an organisation that helped the homeless, addicts, convicts, or people who was just less fortunate. We first tackled what the issue was followed by how we could help. Most people were also housed and given the chance to work, which was very hard to do as jobs weren't particularly trying to hire most of the people that came to the shelter for help.

I opened up this business four years ago and it's been a great success. I have a team that lives here and keeps an eye on those who stay here; I have qualified counsellors who come daily to help those with whatever issues they may be dealing with and I have mentors who stay with them from they get assigned all the way up until they live alone and get a job; they even keep in contact if that's what the individual wants.

I was glad work was finally finished. I was looking forward to my date!

As I sat opposite Alex I couldn't help but admire how handsome he was.

"What?" He asked as he caught me staring for a bit too long.

"Nothing." I said as I giggled.

Ive lost count on the amount of dates I had been on with Alex where I have had to leave in a haste and deal with my other "lifestyle".

This was one reason why dating wasn't really an option for me. I couldn't and wouldn't explain my sudden need to disappear. And guys wouldn't really be okay with it. So whilst I remained a woman on a mission I was okay with sacrificing my love life.

However Alex wasn't trying to allow that. We've been seeing each other for almost a year now. The fact he goes to my gym doesn't help as that's where I first met him.

10 months ago...

I was in the gym working out as I do when I noticed a guy staring at me. I usually get stares so I don't really pay them any mind. However this one decided to come over and approach me.

I was using the cross trainer when he also came on to use the one next to me.

"Hello." He said.

"Hi." I said as I continued on the cross trainer.

"I'm just going to come out with it. I'm Alex and I've seen you come here a few times and I was wondering if the next time I could see you would be away from the gym."

"Nope."

"No? May I ask why?"

"You may."

"Why then?"

"Because I didn't come to the gym to meet anyone I came to do my workout then leave."

"Fair enough." He said.

He then finished his workout on the cross trainer then left.

As I finished up what I was doing and headed to my car I put my stuff in my boot and made my way home. Just as I pulled out of the bay a car crashes into me.

"Fuck!" I said aloud.

I look around and saw a black Lexus with tinted windows. I drew for my gun instantly. I can't believe I had been so sloppy. I was ready to shoot until I saw that the guy who come out was the guy from the the gym.
