Kyle looks into my eyes as I'm gasping for breath. He smiles and places his hand on my cheek and soothingly rubs. I smile back and close my eyes, leaning into his hand. It's so relaxing, I could just sleep.
And that's what I did. I slept. I roll over and face the window. I see the sun isn't out anymore. Kyle isn't next to me. What time is it? I rub the sleep from my eyes and stretch, I groan and moan as I feel all my muscles stretch it feels sooo good.
My stomach grumbles, so I get up and go towards the room where I overheard Kyle and his parents, well one parent and another just going with it, arguing. I peek my head into the room, it's the dining room. I walk through it while rubbing my eyes as I adjust to the brighter light. I hear voices to the left, as I pass the table, I turn and Kyle is leaning against the counter talk to his mom. He smiles when he sees me.
She turns to see what he smiled at, "Oh, hello dear come in here." She opens her arms welcoming me. I walk into them and she hugs me, patting my back, "I'm sorry for what you overheard earlier. His dad just worries about everything. Trust me, everything." She whispers to me. She backs up and looks at me face to face. "Now Carly, you can call me Sue or Ann. Either one is fine." She smiles and walks back to the stove, where a wonderful smell is bubbling up and wafting through the air. I sniff and my stomach grumbles loudly. I squirm in embarrassment. Sue let's out a snort, which turns into a fit of giggles, Kyle and I join in on the laugh.
"Don't worry dear, dinner will be done in a few. Kyle set the table, then go retrieve your father from his study." Kyle curtly nods then walks to the cabinet. He grabs four plates, four forks, four spoons, and four napkins. He walks past me into the dining room and I hear dishes clatter, he walks back in and grabs four cups and walks back into the dining room. Finally, I hear footsteps echo throughout the room as he goes after his father.
Sue shoos me into the dining room and sits me in a chair, I sink down into it and nervously twist my hands together under the table. Kyle walks back in and smiles at me. I bite my lip and look down.
"He will be down after he finishes his email, which he said should be a few minutes. It's very important and is about the family business. And who will be heir to the company." She nods and hands Kyle two bowls, one has salad, and the other mashed potatoes. Then she follows bringing a plate of crescent rolls, and steaks. Kyle goes back into the kitchen and comes back with a pitcher of a yellow substance- lemonade, I'm guessing. Also he has a bowl filled with corn. He sits then down on the table as well and then sits across
"Lemonade?" Sue asks me holding the pitcher over my cup.
"Yes please," I say nodding my head.
"We will eat when John gets his rear in here. So he can say grace, as usual." I nod and she walks back to the kitchen. "We will also have dessert so font fill yourself completely on what's in there. Peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream."
"That's my favorite-"
"Good evening. Sorry I'm late. Dinner smells delicious. Now let's say grace." Sue walks into the room and sits across from John. "Bow your heads please, and join hands. Dear Lord, thank you for this dinner and all that you've given my family. Thank you for our guest, and the safety of her and my son. Thank you for my son's tender and kind heart. But Lord. Thank you, for love, especially. I appreciate all you've done for us and all you continue to do. In the Lord's name. Amen."
Us other three repeat amen in unison. We release hands and John claps his hands. "Shall we dig in now?" Sue asks. All three of us nod our heads. "Carly, you're the guest, you starts, then Kyle then John, and I will get nine last."
"Now dear, I will go last I am the man of the household and I will eat last." Sue presses her lips together but doesn't argue.
