I walked inside. I slid my hand over parts of the house. I haven't visited this place since that night and I would have never gone back if it wasn't for this mission we are on.I glanced over at Stefan. He was picking up a shattered picture frame that used to be up on the wall. It was a picture of my family. My dad is smiling with his arm wrapped around my mother's shoulder. My mom was laughing and about to yell at my brother. He was making a funny face for a formal picture. My fathers hand was on my shoulder and I was smiling really big but I was annoyed with my brother so I was pulling his ear.
There are bunches of shattered pictures all around the house. There ones of my parents wedding, family events, my brother and I, etc. My mother loved photos so she hung them up all around the house.
He smiled at one he picked up. It was one of me trying on my mother's wedding dress. I remember that day clearly. I wanted to dress up all pretty for a tea party I wanted with a few friends around the neighborhood but I didn't have anything nice to wear. My mother said if I didn't have anything I could wear her beautiful princess gown. It was her wedding dress. Of course it was huge on me since I was 6. I was so happy that day. I knew that day I wanted a dress of my own one day but after the attack I knew I would never get one.
" Will you ever decide to get married Mash? You seem very happy in the wedding dress when you were a young girl." He said while showing me the picture.
I took the picture looked at it carefully. "On that day my mother let me try on her wedding dress since I didn't like any of my dresses. When I tried it on I knew that moment I wanted one of my own. I don't know now since a lot has happened. It will probably never happen but I'll see where the road takes me. What about you?"
I handed the picture back to him and he set it down. " Well when I was younger I knew I wanted a nice girl who would go on adventures with me. I had girlfriends before but not one seemed right. I am still waiting for the girl of my dreams. I think she's just not ready yet."
My heart skipped a beat. I don't know if he was talking about me or if he was talking about some future girl. And why would I think that it would be me? I'm not nice. I don't even go on adventures. I go on mission to kill things. A total difference. Right? Fuck..
We stared at each other for a split second and glanced away. I continued to look around for anything. All I found were ashes of old things. The last place I went in the house was my brother's and I room.
The walls were two different colors. One was somewhat Blue with black from the fire and the other side was Red with black from the fire. My brother and I argued on which color the room should be when we moved in. I wanted red and he wanted blue. My father came in a decided what we should do. I got half of the room painted red and he got it blue.
Most of the room was torn down but some remained standing. My brothers bed was still in contact but my wasn't. I still had my shelves and I few stuff animals and dolls that were kinda melted.
I opened the closet that my brother and I shared. And there it was. The first thing I saw was the dress. My mother's wedding dress. Why was it in my closet?
I picked it off the hangar and put it up to my body to see how long it is and how it looked. With what was left of the mirror by my bed I looked at myself with holding up the dress in front of me . It looked perfect and seemed that it would fit me.
Stefan came in right at the time. "You look beautiful."
I whipped my head around. " Ah um thanks I guess."
At that I took of my bag and slid the dress in. I put my bag back on.
"Hey Stefan I don't think anything is here. Let's go."" Alright."
We went to the door of the room. I looked around the room one more time. I missed this house, this room, ....my family. Right before I left the room something caught my eye. There was a doll in the corner of my shelf.
I grabbed Stefan arm to get him to wait. I went over to my shelf. The doll is a mermaid. I don't remember this doll. Well it's been a long time so that may be it. I picked it up and then my head started to spin. Flashes of pictures were popping in my head.
One was of me playing with doll in the water. Another in a tea party. At my birthday, and all over the house. I loved this doll. I remember this doll. I got it from my mom for birthday. She said it would keep me safe and this doll would be there when I needed it most. I couldn't think of a name so my mom helped me with it. I remember the name of this doll. But really I think this doll isn't a doll. I think this is the mermaid Norah we been searching for.
We named the doll Norah. My mom said she would protect me and would be there when I needed her. I am certain this is the mermaid Norah we had been searching for. At that moment a blue flash filled the room.
The doll disappeared from my hands and started turning and growing. After the light had vanished there was a floating mermaid in front of us.
She has tan skin, long and wavy green hair that went into a braid, a blue tail that sparkled, and blue eyes like the ocean. She's beautiful.
She blinked really fast a couple of times and checked her surroundings. Then she looked at me. She smiled.
"You're Norah.." I gawked
Stefan and I stared at her and she just smiled at me. Then she spoke.
"Well Hazel, it's been awhile hasn't it?"
