Darina’s POV

Two months ago.

 ‘’It’s about the right time’’

Told myself and hit a dead body of a dead human away from my path. Sorry for the guy but I really have no time. The air in the hallways was stinking with death and blood. And it made me hungry. Down in the dungeons where the stone walls dripped with wet was the worst and there are places none of my army had visited yet.  It had been a week since my troops took hold of castle de Alcazars in Romania after a big battle. The castle was situated in a beautiful place in Transylvania surrounded by the Poiana Ruscă Mountains.

Though the battle was won, there was still work. It will take few more days to bring this place in to a state that the civilized people can use it again.

The end of the hallway was a door scribed with ancient symbols of black magicks. So this is the place Radomir’s warlock had used to work his magic. I ran my fingers over the carving and felt its power. No one can go through this door without the permission of its owner.  But I should get in to this room somehow. If the rumors are right Imre the warlock had created a portal to travel between Romania and the new world before Radomir executed him. And since Imre’s death Radomir left this place to his hungry soldiers to live and to feed off the villagers. It took Radomir two centuries to realize his mistake.

That’s why I’m here , I didn’t want to let him put his hands on the portal, I don’t want him anywhere near my mate.

‘’ Shit ,there should be some way.’’ I cursed when all my efforts to break the heavy door became useless.

‘’Want a help from the prime witch.’’  Cornelia asked me from behind. She always tries to scare me with these little tricks. But I always know when somebody’s coming close to me from behind.

‘’You know a way  to open this door.’ I asked. Cornelia was my best friend as well as my best ally in my court. But she was a witch not a vampire like me. Not the most powerful witch ever born in the world but she's a white witch.

‘’I didn’t know until two hours ago. But I had a nice little chat with Imre’s spirit.’’ She said while joyfully playing with a lock of her cherry red hair. She loves these little games of hers.

‘’He agreed to help us.’’

‘’Well, it wasn’t hard. He’s still very angry with our mighty king Radomir. So he willingly said he’ll do anything to help us to stop Radomir from conquering the whole vampire world.’’ Cornelia’s emerald eyes seem to shine with excitement.

‘’I though he’ll never say yes.’’

‘’Now as for the door, there’s only one small thing you have to do. This door is mystically protected only to open at its owner’s will.’’ She described.

‘’yeah, I figured that part myself.’’ I said smiling. I was proud of myself. It’s not easy to recognize how dark spells like this work.

‘’Then tell me how you’re going to break this spell.’’ My smile faded.

‘’ Darina! stay out of things you don’t know about. This is a den of a black warlock .Who the hell knows what kind of things he'd been doing  in this room.’’ She said in an annoyed tone.

‘’Oh, stop bitching me around and tell me how to open this damned door.’’

She frowned at my raised voice but answered my question ‘’ the owner of the castle can open the door.’’

‘’Open locks,’’ I commanded.

‘’ It’s my right to enter this room. It’s my will that break this spell.’’ Somehow I knew the right words to say.

The door flew open on a blast of wind. It was full of dust and spider webs like any place been close for two centuries could be. The room looked more like a mad scientist’s lab than an 18th century warlock's den.

‘’It 's in here.’’

Cornelia swept the dust from a big wooden chest and opened it with some effort. A bright blue light shimmered from the box.

‘’you have to jump in, Darina.’’ She said in a low tone mesmerized by the scene.

I moved to take a closer look. The chest was filled with a gel like substance .But it glittered with a beautiful blue light that seemed to be coming from the bottom of the box.

‘’It’s not that I don't  trust you Cornelia but are you sure this is safe.’’ I asked.

The blue light made me want to jump and swim in it ,the same kind of unfightable urge that makes some vampires run in to the sunlight in the periods of ennui. This made me more nervous, it’s not like I was born yesterday.

‘’Okay after you then.’’

She jumped in to the chest and disappeared in the blue light. Brave girl, now I’m left without another choice but to follow her. She was my best friend after all.

‘’Kieran, I’m coming for you.’’ I said for the last time before I jumped in to the portal.

Kieran‘s POV

Present day,

‘’Kieran, I’m coming for you.’’ The last part of the dream seemed to spin in my head.  THE SAME DREAM I’ve been seeing for the last two months now.

The digital alarm clock next to my bed glowed red in the dark and screamed 7.55 in the morning. Hell , this means no college today . And I’ll not fall in sleep again even if I drugged myself with a handful of sleeping pills. That’s how my internal alarm works.

My throat felt sore and dry so I decided to drink some water. I had to push Goofy who was sleeping on my chest aside before I pulled myself away from the bed. Poor Goofy now gets tire down soon. He always reminds me of mom and the happy times I had in her kitchen hurting Goofy every time when mom was  not looking. Goofy and me were the BIGGEST enemies in those days , we kind of made a speechless ceasefire  between us after her death.

I didn’t switch on the lights in the living room; I’m not a fool who throw pebbles to the sleeping lions.

Brian said something unrecognizable in his sleep when I ran over his leg. But turned to other side and stared to sleep again like a mammoth on my little coach.

I took a bottle of cold water from the fridge and drank it all down. I bought this loft all because of this reason. I can come and go as I please any time I please. The year I spend in the college dorm was a nightmare. My total geeky roommate Matt thought I was sneaking out from the room in the middle of the night to use drugs. He used to give me lectures about disadvantages of using illegal substance over and over again. He even came up with a theory saying I’m extraterrestrial. Needless to say it almost sent me in to a distant corner of the collage social galaxy. That threat was none extinct when I recall the time he tried to poster me as a vamp, as he thought with his brilliant mind, which he thinks as the light of humanity, that I’m sneaking out from my room in really odd hours of the night to feed off the poor New Youkers. And it was downright hilarious. And It was freakishly closer to the truth. ButI let him believe it was what I’m doing; well it’s far better than telling him I was out there in the night slaying vamps.

And it didn’t turn out to be a social suicide. It even got me invited to a certain number of parties and popular cliques. It was the time I realized being or knowing a vampire means step up for some people. We Homo sapiens should definitely change the name of our species in to Delusional idiots. As it seems most of us are delusional, or idiots.Including me, as it turns out that all my dreams from last two months were fantasies. Fantasizing about your enemy   was no were in hunter’s cook book, that I can assure.

I took my weapons and car key before I left the loft. I closed the door but didn’t lock it. My relatives from hell might want to roam the city while they are staying.

The same feeling I always get when I leave this place hit hard this time. I may never come back to this loft ever again, will my luck run out today and I Kieran Wakefield become a meal to a hungry vampire.

But I need to do this,Nothing's better than a good fight to rid myself of the dark haunting ghost envading my mind.
