Kieran's POV

Once again she was giving me the chance to get the hell out of here and not look back. Any  other hunter would have leaped at that chance. I could think of a lot of other places I’d rather be right now, for certain. Things like hanging out with my less than hand full of friends, playing a video game. Even a tip to core boring lecture of roman architecture form Mr. Gilmore would be less hard to swallow at this moment.  Without the element of surprise, you’ve got no chance at all. It was one of the very first rules of vampire hunter’s text book, first page. She gave me the element, something very hard to expect from an old vampire like her. But I hesitated, something that has never happened to me when I was this close to victory.

With all those thoughts crawling in my mind I entered to a luxuriant hall. The dining room /hall had a crystal dome that allows the thousands of candles lit in the room create vibrant illusions of northern lights underneath of it. And likely to enhance its effect, huge mirrors covered the two main sides of the rectangular hall.

Mirrors ? Oh sweet god. How am I going to hide my reflectionlessness if I’m going to be in this room filled with freaking mirrors? Giant mirrors at that, Perfect, just perfect.

Maybe I should tell them the truth. You should not lie to your conscience and to your doctors if you want to live long. And in this case Cornelia could be considered as my Doc, as I have no one else to help me with my symptoms. Another freak to join Darina’s circus, Oh joy.

“You owe me an enchanted pedicure portion Corny.” Darina said with a victorious smile as she entered the hall. Cornelia who was already sitting on her chair scowled at her friend that resulted an unexpected chuckle from me.

“So it seems our prince consort- to- be has finally decided to grace us with his presence.”  She tilted her head, teasing me. It was my turn to scowl.

Two half vamps came in with bowls of high class food in their hands.

How often should they eat...er drink, blood I mean. Was it like breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or an occasional craving for ice cream?

Then another maid servant entered with a huge seven layered chocolate cake and placed it on the very center of the long mahogany table. For some reason I always felt sorry for the half vampires. Maybe that was because they were stuck in this middle stage of mortality and immortality, they had to leave their humanity just to live as slaves in the world of full vampires. They were still exposed to the limbs of aging without the ability to walk in the sun.  who would want a life like that.

“Who’s that? I’m Sorry but I have zero knowledge in royal terms and proper addressing. And no, don’t bother filling me in, not interested.” I said specifically looking at Darina in her eye.

"Of course you need to know that, you are the royal consort to be."

"Please, nobody has given me the chance to forget!" He sighed, Suddenly destiny is getting a lot more complicated, at least now I know why she made a deal with me.

The young castle maid sighed, tearing my eyes away from my possible mate for a second. Her gaze frosted when our eyes met and then she bowed her head and hurried out of the hall. Maybe they’ve never seen anyone look at their queen straight in the eye beside Cornelia, and lived to see another dawn. Well, they’ll get to see a lot of those first times if I couldn’t get away from this place soon.

“Ah, I think I know the problem between you two. Two destructive forces usually attract,” Cornelia observed. She took two forks in her hands and bought them closer to demonstrate her point.

“So when they detonate.” A blue light emerged from her palms and both forks turned to liquid gold smudges on the dark red wood of the table. “They can cause greater damage. But the problem is you have an innocent bystander present, so behave. ” Darina’s face turned to the same red color of her dress. A very unlikely reaction of rage in a vampire I should say. I didn’t believe a vamp could change the pale alabaster color of their skin as a reaction to any emotional imbalance. Didn’t want to believe would be the right word. It made them look so human. I never thought of any vampire as a person, it only make the kill more hard and disgusting if you do.
