"My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods: time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath: a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I am Healthcliff! He's always, always in my mind: not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself, but as my own being."
~ Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights
I ran my fingers over the ivory keys, wondering what it would be like to be able to play it with the same passion and skill as those I've seen in many a ball."Do you play?" I pressed the keys in surprise at the voice.
I stood up to greet him, "Roderich, good evening. It's nice to finally meet you"
He nodded before asking again, "Do you know how to play?"
I shook my head, chuckling a bit, "I'm afraid not. Money is scarce in my household"
"That much I know"
I smiled, embarrassed. He immediately corrected himself, "N-no, I meant that it... it would've made sense. Music lessons are expensive and unnecessary if it's not your life"
"It's all right. You don't have to feel bad" I said, returning to the piano "You know... I used to fantasize myself marrying for love rather than for wealth. Silly, isn't it?"
There was a pause but then he sat down next to me and lifted both hands. I forgot that he was a gifted musician. He caressed the keys with such speed and elegance, I felt entranced not just by the music but also with his movement.
When he finished, we were both quiet for a while, but I gathered the courage to ask him, "Roderich, if I may be so bold..."
He turned to me. I touched the bronze locket resting on my collarbone "Do you have someone you... you hold dearly?"
"I'm afraid I do not understand"
"I meant... if you were given a choice... do you have someone you would like to marry?"
He raised his head to the ceiling, thinking, then returned to me "I do. Someone I've known since I was a child"
I grinned but furrowed my brows as I squeezed my locket, "So... tonight's the wedding, huh?"
"Yes. Are you nervous?"
"Steady as a rock" I lied.

"Oh, how lovely!" I admired the silver comb I pulled out from the rectangular box "I wish Lili could've made it tonight. I want to thank her"
"Yes well, you know how hard she works" Vash rubbed the back of his nape.
"Like brother, like sister, yes?" I laughed.
"Yeah, whatever. Um..." He cleared his throat but unable to hide the blush in his cheeks.
"What is it?"
He pushed a small box towards me, "Here"
"Another gift?"
"Lili said I should get you something"
"You got me this?" I said, covering my mouth to silence my laugh but to no avail. He blushed furiously.
